The students immediately notice them in my office and are eager to play with them. These materials allow my students - especially my younger kiddos - to use their natural language of play to explore and understand the world around them in a safe way. This is especially important as many of them begin school in a new city or even country! \r\n\r\nThe fidgets, stickers, and kaleidoscopes have already proved themselves to be needed emotional regulation tools. Being able to provide a variety of options so a student can choose what's best for them is helpful and allows regulation to occur quickly and naturally. Additionally, I am able to meet the needs of students who respond best to tangible rewards by celebrating their successes with a sticker or by letting them borrow a fidget for the day. \r\n\r\nFinally (but certainly not least!), the books you provided are an essential part of my counseling approach. Bibliotherapy allows me to support student literacy while also introducing them to concepts around self-regulation, anxiety, and trauma in an age-appropriate way. \r\n\r\nI'm so excited to be able to offer these resources to my students this year! One student recently said, \"I need my calm space,\" and returned to the group ready to finish his work. That moment alone showed how powerful structure and dignity can be in behavior support.\r\n\r\nWhen the dividers were first set up, my students were excited but also curious. They immediately recognized that something special had been created just for them. We introduced the spaces as tools for strength, not punishment. They practiced how to use them appropriately, and several students smiled and said it felt \"quiet\" and \"safe.\" For children who often struggle with sensory overload, having a space that belongs to their regulation needs made them feel seen.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we are incorporating the calm and reflection areas into our social-emotional learning lessons. Students are practicing identifying their emotions, choosing coping strategies, and reflecting on their behavior before rejoining instruction. These spaces are helping them build independence and self-awareness.
