Having consistent, structured practice tools has helped me create more focused, meaningful learning experiences for multilingual learners.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments this year happened during independent reading and writing time. With the new resources, students were able to choose materials that matched their language level and learning goals. Seeing their excitement and growing independence has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nYour support has also helped me continue improving my instruction through better differentiation and targeted practice. Because of your generosity, I now use a portable monitor and docking station to strengthen my professional learning every day. This lightweight setup allows me to study instructional strategies, analyze student data, complete online training, and review teaching materials from anywhere on campus. Having a second screen has helped me stay organized, focused, and efficient as I work to improve my scaffolding, pacing, and support for newcomer students.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments this year happened during a small-group lesson with my newcomer students. Using the new setup, I was able to pull up language models, visuals, and student progress data at the same time. This allowed me to give immediate feedback and adjust my instruction in real time. I watched students grow more confident as they practiced speaking and writing with clearer structure. Seeing them successfully use academic language and feel proud of their progress reminded me why continuous learning as a teacher matters so much.\r\n\r\nYour support has also encouraged me to keep growing as an educator. I am excited to continue developing my skills in data-driven instruction, language scaffolding, and ACCESS test preparation. I am especially looking forward to expanding my work in helping students strengthen their writing and speaking skills so they can succeed academically and beyond. Because of your generosity, my students now have access to essential supplies such as notebooks, pens, dry erase markers, sticky notes, folders, and basic cleaning materials. Many of my students arrive without these items, so having consistent access to supplies allows them to focus on learning instead of worrying about what they are missing. These tools support daily reading, writing, and vocabulary practice while helping students stay organized and confident.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments this year happened during a small-group writing activity. With the new supplies, every student was able to participate fully, using their own notebook and markers to plan and revise their work. Students who once hesitated to speak or write began sharing their ideas more freely. I saw them take pride in their work, help each other, and engage more actively in lessons. These small moments of confidence and independence make a big difference in their learning journey.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped me create a structured, welcoming environment where Multilingual Learners can grow academically and emotionally. I am excited to continue strengthening classroom routines, vocabulary development, and collaborative learning experiences. Your generosity has created a fundamental shift in our classroom. Before this project, the room functioned, but it did not fully support the needs of students who are learning English and navigating school culture at the same time. Now, because of your contribution, the physical space finally aligns with the work we are doing academically, socially, and emotionally. The difference is noticeable the moment anyone walks through the door.\r\n\r\nThe cleaning supplies have been a game-changer. Many of my students come from households where stability varies, and hygiene resources are not always guaranteed. Having disinfecting wipes, paper towels, sprays, and organizers available every day has created a consistent routine: students clean their desks, prepare their materials, and reset the room after each class. This may sound simple, but for multilingual learners, predictable routines reduce anxiety and increase engagement. When they feel safe, clean, and confident in the space around them, they participate more and take ownership of their environment. Several students have started volunteering to help tidy the classroom before and after school, which has turned into a small leadership role they take pride in.\r\n\r\nThe basic supplies have directly improved instruction. Many students arrive with limited or no materials. In the past, this meant lost time, frustration, or students trying to share supplies in ways that disrupted the lesson. With this project, every student has access to what they need the moment we start: notebooks, folders, pencils, markers, highlighters, and organizational tools. As soon as the bins and caddies were set up, the tone of the classroom shifted. One sixth grader told me, \"It looks like a real class now,\" and that moment captured exactly why this matters. When students have the tools they need, they see themselves as capable learners. It reinforces that they belong here, and that their learning is worth investing in.\r\n\r\nThe furniture has had the biggest immediate impact on student behavior and collaboration. Previously, seating options were mismatched and limited. Some desks were wobbly, uncomfortable, or too small. Now, students have flexible, comfortable seating that allows them to work in groups, pairs, or independently with ease. The room layout is cleaner and more functional, which has improved transitions and small-group instruction. Students reacted with genuine excitement the first day they walked in and saw the new setup. For learners who often feel unstated pressure to \"catch up,\" having a physical space designed for them sends a powerful message: this room was created with you in mind.\r\n\r\nWe have already started using the new setup to launch more structured lessons, collaborative activities, reading rotations, and writing stations. The improved organization makes it easier to move between tasks without losing instructional time, and students are more willing to attempt rigorous work when the environment feels supportive. Several students who used to shut down during independent activities are now participating because they have stable seating, clean workspaces, and the tools they need to express their ideas.\r\n\r\nYour support didn't just provide items. It accelerated the vision for this classroom. My students now learn in a space that communicates safety, dignity, and high expectations. They see that people beyond our school believe in them and their potential. For multilingual learners—many of whom are navigating new countries, new systems, and new languages—that message carries enormous weight.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible. Your contribution is shaping their daily experience and opening doors to real opportunity.","fullyFundedDate":1762714189249,"projectUrl":"project/help-my-multilingual-learners-access-equ/9884083/","projectTitle":"Help my Multilingual Learners Access Equal Opportunities","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Manuel Tovilla","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10346148_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762607631940","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10346148"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2206","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":552,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":44,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":36,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":64.0,"schoolId":2206,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Graham Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Graham Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/alamance-burlington-school-system/graham-middle-school/2206"}
