We have had a strong start to the year and the textbooks have been invaluable to their growth. Following a hands on in person lesson in school, the students have reading and practice problems assigned from the textbook at night. These readings and exercises support and formalize the learning experiences we have each day. \r\n\r\nBy each student having their own copy of the textbook, kids are able to interact with it in meaningful ways. Students can highlight, underline, and notate at will since they don't need to worry about returning the book at the end of the year. Additionally, the text has guided practice problems for each section where the students can immediately practice what they are learning. The solutions to these practice problems are in the footnotes so kids can get immediate feedback on their developing understandings. With this feedback, they can then reread to correct their mistakes, watch a video on AP Classroom, or follow up with me with very detailed questions about the help they need. \r\n\r\nThese books are helping my students grow into independent learners as they develop skills that they will be able to take with them into their post-secondary endeavors. They are learning how to use the text as a valuable tool to aid them as they move through the course. \r\n\r\n(They also love the multicolored pens for note taking and in-class work!)","fullyFundedDate":1755785799232,"projectUrl":"project/annotating-to-ap-statistics-success/9585336/","projectTitle":"Annotating to Ap Statistics Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hansan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kent-hansan"},{"teacherId":1794924,"projectId":8736567,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the supplies for the course!\r\n\r\nThe textbooks have been instrumental in my students getting a handle on the material for AP Statistics. Each section of the textbook has example problems that the students work out as the read and learn. They also have guided practice problems to further test themselves. The fact that the books are theirs to keep means that they can write directly in the book and keep track of their ideas as they read and work.\r\n\r\nThe Barbie dolls were the primary motivator for our unit on Linear Regression. Students measured how far the dolls would drop with rubber bands attached to their legs. With each additional rubber band, they gained additional information. Finally, when the day arrived, they had to predict the number of rubber bands that would provide Barbie with the most extreme drop without resulting in a concussion. We took the dolls to the stairwell and sent them down.
