Having access to chips, fruit snacks, and juice boxes has not only helped them stay engaged during instructional time but has also eased their worries about being hungry in the classroom. \r\n\r\nThe impact has been incredible. My students are excited to earn a snack as a reward for their hard work, and it has increased their motivation to participate and stay on task. The new vacuum cleaner has made a significant difference in our weekly routines and the well-being of our children, especially those who are non-verbal and on the autism spectrum.\r\n\r\nWe use the vacuum weekly to keep our rug area—where students spend much of their time playing, exploring, and engaging in sensory activities—clean and free from dust, allergens, and germs. This small but powerful tool has helped reduce allergy flare-ups and potential illness, which is so important since many of our students put their hands and toys in their mouths as part of sensory exploration.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the vacuum, we were also able to add folding chairs to our reading area, giving our students a designated, comfortable place to sit during storytime and small group reading sessions. This has transformed our reading corner into a more structured, inviting space that encourages participation and makes storytime feel special. For students who benefit from visual boundaries and clear expectations, having their own seat makes a huge difference in helping them focus.\r\n\r\nI'll never forget the first time we used the vacuum. One of our students, who rarely expresses excitement, clapped his hands and watched intently as we cleaned the rug. It was a small moment, but it showed us that even the act of cleaning can be meaningful for our students when it contributes to their comfort and routine.\r\n\r\nWith a cleaner environment and cozy reading area, we've noticed our students are more focused and engaged. Recently, we used the rug area for a group sensory project involving textured mats, building blocks, and calming music. Meanwhile, the new chairs made it easier to transition into a group reading session afterward. The students were calm, interactive, and fully immersed something that can be difficult to achieve in a space that doesn't feel physically safe or comfortable.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're excited to continue building on this momentum. Our next step is to introduce more structured group play activities and storytime circles that combine the rug and reading areas, encouraging both social interaction and language development in a space where students feel secure and supported.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making this possible. Your donation didn't just buy a vacuum and chairs it helped us create a cleaner, safer, and more engaging classroom that truly feels like home for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1746786298830,"projectUrl":"project/healthy-hands-happy-hearts-keeping-our/9200564/","projectTitle":"Healthy Hands, Happy Hearts: Keeping Our Classroom Safe for All","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Aracena","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9706966"},{"teacherId":4077310,"projectId":8940948,"letterContent":"There were a few hiccups in the process of getting the table and it took several attempts and months because of the original vendor. These resources also provide the students with the opportunity to engage in positive social interactions with their peers, for example, students sit side by side, exchanging materials and verbally interact with one another.\r\nI especially like the puzzles, because they are a excellent in improving visual performance tasks and my students are able to attend to this activity with increasing frequency and duration.
