During math centers, the students were exploring addition and subtraction with our new manipulatives. As they worked, one student suddenly realized he could trade ten ones cubes for a tens rod. His eyes lit up, and he couldn't wait to show the others. He went around helping a few classmates who were still stuck, and soon the whole group caught on. The room filled with excitement as everyone began to understand how regrouping worked. \r\n\r\nWhen my second graders first saw the new math manipulatives, their faces lit up with curiosity. They couldn't wait to explore them! Next steps for my students will be to keep exploring place value and regrouping with even more hands-on activities. We'll start using them to solve simple word problems and connect math to real-life situations. As the students grow more confident, they will practice showing their thinking with drawings and equations instead of just the blocks. Our new easel on wheels is able to move around the classroom, making it easier for all kids to see and use. Also, it is much bigger than our old easel. We use it everyday during our phonics time and writing. Students love being able to show their work on the board. As a teacher, I enjoy being able to have a large board that I can use around the room. \r\n Our new book and material organizer is awesome as well. It is also on wheels, which makes it easy to move around the room.
