When the boxes first arrived in our classroom, the students were immediately curious and eager to see what was inside. As we began unboxing everything together, their faces lit up with excitement. They were especially drawn to the Huggies, and every student raised their hand, hoping for a turn to come up and feel them. They were just as excited about the feelings book and the plush emotion stuffies, immediately recognizing different emotions and connecting them to their own experiences.\r\n\r\nWe also worked together to assemble the Velcro emotions chart. Students were proud to recognize emotions and share calming strategies they already use, such as deep breathing or taking a break.\r\n\r\nAnother highlight was introducing the calming strips. Each student got to choose their own and thoughtfully decide where to place it on their desk. They were very intentional, explaining how the strip would help them stay focused or calm during learning time. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue to build on these skills by intentionally incorporating social-emotional learning into our daily plans. We will revisit the feelings book regularly and continue using the emotion stuffies to discuss, act out, and identify different emotions in a hands-on and engaging way. Students will be encouraged to use a plush toy to show how they are feeling, especially when they may not yet have the words to express themselves.\r\n\r\nThey will also be guided to independently choose calming strategies from the chart when they begin to feel overwhelmed. In addition, we consistently review classroom expectations and rules, especially before and after transitions or breaks. When discussing positive and negative choices, the puzzle provides a meaningful, hands-on way for students to reflect and better understand their actions.","fullyFundedDate":1769192058038,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-calming-corner-for-little-lea/9770456/","projectTitle":"Creating a Calming Corner for Little Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Forminio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9908934_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760212556923","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9908934"},{"teacherId":10390595,"projectId":9970230,"letterContent":"My students and I are so grateful for your generosity.
