When the boxes arrived, my students could hardly wait to see what was inside. Their eyes lit up as we unpacked the mini farms and sorting activities — it was like opening a treasure chest full of learning adventures!\r\n\r\nWe've been using the mini farms to explore plant and animal life cycles, habitats, and responsibility. Each student has taken turns caring for our classroom \"farm,\" making sure everything is watered, clean, and growing. It's amazing to see how much pride they take in their work — they even cheer when they spot new growth!\r\n\r\nThe \"What Goes Together\" and \"Category Sort\" activities have become classroom favorites during small group time. These hands-on tools are helping my students build vocabulary, sorting skills, and critical thinking. One memorable moment was when a student who often struggles with language proudly explained, \"These go together because they're all things you can eat!\"\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, my students will continue using these materials to build connections between science, literacy, and real-world learning. Next, we'll be expanding our lessons to include journaling about what they observe in our mini farms and creating sorting games of their own!","fullyFundedDate":1758840443717,"projectUrl":"project/building-words-building-confidence/9731546/","projectTitle":"Building Words, Building Confidence","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Alexa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10264669"},{"teacherId":9880195,"projectId":9060151,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students now have an iPad that is truly transforming their communication. As the speech-language pathologist in a special needs school, I use AAC apps, Boom Cards, and interactive language tools every day. Having a dedicated device allows me to give students consistent, individualized practice that helps them express their wants, needs, and ideas more clearly than ever before.\r\nThe students are thrilled with the new technology. They love the bright visuals, the touch-based interaction, and hearing their own messages spoken aloud. Boom Cards have quickly become a favorite, turning speech and language practice into something fun and motivating. Our AAC users, especially, now have a more reliable way to participate in lessons and conversations.\r\nOne student, who previously relied mostly on gestures, was able to trial an AAC system on this iPad during our sessions. With the chance to explore vocabulary, try different layouts, and practice forming messages, he quickly showed that this tool met his communication needs. Because of this successful trial, I was able to confidently recommend a full AAC system for him, and he is now using simple sentences, making requests, and greeting peers. Thank you for helping make moments like this possible and for giving our students the tools they need to find their voices.","fullyFundedDate":1742569334838,"projectUrl":"project/using-ipads-to-facilitate-and-empower-co/9060151/","projectTitle":"Using iPads to facilitate and empower communication and learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bella","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9880195"},{"teacherId":6342041,"projectId":9720730,"letterContent":"Thank You So Much!\r\n\r\nThanks to your generous contributions, my speech room now has an iPad that is already making a huge difference for my special needs students. For many of my students, spoken words can be hard to produce. With the iPad, they now have a reliable way to communicate their needs, wants, and ideas. They can tell me how they feel, answer questions, and even join class discussions.\r\n\r\nThis technology has turned everyday lessons into interactive experiences. Students use communication apps like TouchChat and Proloquo2Go to explore new vocabulary, build sentences, and share their thoughts during stories and group activities. The excitement on their faces when the iPad \"speaks\" for them is something I will never forget.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular has truly blossomed since we started using the device. Before, he often displayed increased frustration during communication breakdowns. Now he proudly uses his iPad during his sessions to comment on what we are learning. Your donation has made an incredible impact on my students, and I wanted to share how much it means to them and me.\r\n\r\nThe iPad has given a voice to many of my non-verbal students, allowing them to communicate more effectively and participate in their learning in ways they were not able to before. It has become an essential tool in breaking down barriers to access the curriculum, enabling students to engage in lessons and activities that would otherwise be difficult for them. The interactive features of the iPad make learning fun and more individualized, allowing each student to work at their own pace and in ways that suit their unique needs.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting aspects for the students is how they can now express themselves through apps designed for speech and communication. Watching their faces light up when they can share their thoughts or answer a question using the iPad has been truly heartwarming. Some of my students who previously struggled with communication have developed a new sense of confidence, eagerly using the technology to interact with their peers and me.\r\n\r\nIn particular, one of my students, who has limited verbal communication, has really embraced the iPad. She now uses it regularly to answer questions and share ideas with the class, something she was never able to do before. The joy she feels when she can communicate in this way is a moment that words can't fully capture, but it's a transformation that I know wouldn't have been possible without your support.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the gift of communication and a richer, more accessible learning experience.
