As we opened the boxes together, students eagerly gathered around the table to see the new building materials, magnets, and sorting activities. Their eyes lit up as they began touching, stacking, and experimenting with the pieces, excited to discover what they could create.\r\n\r\nMany of these STEM materials are now used in our Independent Work Area, where students practice important skills while feeling like they are simply playing. Students enjoy building Magna-Tiles by following picture designs, carefully recreating structures while strengthening their visual attention and problem-solving skills. Others use the farm train set to practice counting, matching, and sorting animals and objects. Some students are also building simple three-letter words using the magnetic letters, proudly placing each letter in order.\r\n\r\nThe best part is that students feel happy and successful because they believe they are just playing with fun toys, but in reality they are independently completing meaningful learning tasks. These hands-on experiences help my students build confidence, independence, and early academic skills. We are so grateful to our generous donors for helping create these joyful learning opportunities in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1764710184540,"projectUrl":"project/stem-explorers-learning-through-play-an/9844996/","projectTitle":"STEM Explorers: Learning Through Play and Real-Life Discovery!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Maya","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8120777_orig.jpg?crop=981,981,x861,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1673196494319","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mayasclassny"},{"teacherId":8120777,"projectId":9959352,"letterContent":"As soon as my students heard the sound of the guitar strings, they immediately stopped, looked around, and listened carefully to where the music was coming from. During the unpacking of the musical instruments, everyone waited eagerly with excitement in their eyes. My students love music and enjoy creating sounds together, so they were thrilled to explore the new instruments.\r\n\r\nOnce the instruments were placed on the table, students eagerly took turns shaking, tapping, and playing them to explore rhythm, sound, and cause-and-effect. Some students loved the egg shakers, moving their arms up and down while trying to sing along to the \"Shake Your Hands\" song by Patty Shukla. Others enjoyed using the maracas, moving them in circular motions while practicing following directions such as shaking gently or strongly, which helps develop arm coordination and body control.\r\n\r\nStudents also explored the tambourines, xylophones, and colorful juggling scarves, creating music and dancing together with big smiles on their faces. These instruments have brought so much joy and engagement into our classroom. My students truly love music, and the happiness on their faces when we incorporate these instruments into our learning activities is priceless. They were eager to explore the new toys and immediately wanted to play together. During our first activity, we opened the Honey Bee Tree game, and the students began counting how many bees and trees there were. They carefully used their fine motor skills and hand control to poke the leaves into the tree while focusing on the task. The room quickly filled with laughter as students played Hungry Hungry Hippos, giggling with excitement as they watched their hippos eat the balls and loudly counting to see who had the most.\r\n\r\nOther students were busy completing the alphabet, shapes, and dinosaur puzzles, proudly fitting the pieces together. When we opened more materials, the children's \"wow!\" reactions were priceless. One student's eyes lit up when he saw the sea animal figures and began naming each animal one by one. Another student happily moved to our play kitchen area and pretended to cook using the new play food.\r\n\r\nThese materials have created many opportunities for students to practice communication and social skills while having fun. Students are requesting toys, asking for pieces they need, and practicing turn-taking and sharing with their classmates. The joy and engagement these materials have brought to our classroom have been incredible. My students thrive on structure and sensory regulation. The new materials have allowed us to organize independent work stations, create clearly defined learning areas, and reduce visual clutter that can overwhelm them. One powerful moment happened during independent work time. A student who typically struggles with transitions walked to his organized workstation, sat down, and completed his task without prompting. The calm setup helped him feel regulated enough to focus. That moment was huge.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the refreshed classroom setup, many of them smiled, explored quietly, and immediately gravitated toward their designated spaces. For children with severe autism, changes can be challenging, but this change felt supportive. The clean shelves, labeled bins, and structured systems made expectations clearer. Instead of becoming distracted or dysregulated, students were more engaged and ready to learn. It was beautiful to watch them settle in so naturally.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, we are now able to take the next steps in building independence. We are working on life skills lessons such as organizing materials, cleaning up after activities, and maintaining personal work spaces. These are skills that extend far beyond our classroom walls. A calm classroom allows us to focus on communication, social interaction, and daily living skills in a meaningful way. Thank you for giving my students not just supplies, but an environment where they can grow, regulate, and succeed. Your support truly changed our daily experience.\r\n\r\nWith gratitude,\r\nPaige","fullyFundedDate":1765479138174,"projectUrl":"project/help-give-my-students-a-clean-and-calm-c/9939512/","projectTitle":"Help Give My Students a Clean and Calm Classroom.","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Paige Flynn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8401299_orig.jpg?crop=433,433,x0,y40&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692905099088","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-paige-flynn"},{"teacherId":9219059,"projectId":9164118,"letterContent":"You won't believe how great all flexible seats work perfectly with my students. Your kindness helped us restock essential supplies just when we needed them most.\r\n\r\nWhen our new materials arrived, the students were so excited—they noticed right away that their favorite bins were refilled, and they eagerly reached for their familiar tools. One student smiled and clapped when he saw the fresh packs of markers and Play-Doh on his work tray. Another immediately started sorting through new visuals and picture symbols to use during the morning meeting.\r\n\r\nWe've already put these materials to use in several classroom routines. One highlight was during our independent work rotations. With newly restocked reinforcers and supplies, students were more focused and motivated to complete their tasks, whether it was matching, labeling, or fine motor work like lacing and pasting. These tools are essential for reinforcing learning in ways that are accessible and meaningful to each student.\r\n\r\nCurrently, we're working on a functional literacy unit where students are building their personal communication books. Thanks to the new laminating sheets, velcro, and visuals, we're able to personalize each book with key vocabulary and symbols. Our next step is to use these books during our community-based instruction lessons, allowing students to make choices and communicate with greater independence.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a direct, daily impact on our classroom—and we're so grateful!","fullyFundedDate":1742902201597,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-mid-year-replenish/9207301/","projectTitle":"Classroom Mid Year Replenish","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Paige Flynn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8401299_orig.jpg?crop=433,433,x0,y40&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692905099088","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-paige-flynn"},{"teacherId":6148294,"projectId":9099846,"letterContent":"Thank you for your donations which helped me provide books for my students.
