When they finally earned their first session of board game time they were so excited! Their excitement grew as I took out each game and showed them what they were able to choose from. I watched as students chose games and groups and enjoyed some downtime while having opportunities for socialization, choice making and independence. Students who I have never seen interact with each other, joined together to play a game they enjoyed. Along the way we had conversations about fairness, being bossy, how to be a gracious winner and that its okay to lose. When time was up, they worked together to clean up and shared how much fun they had playing the games. The class is looking forward to the next time they are able to play and I can't wait to see how much they continue to enjoy screen-free fun while developing friendships, coping skills, patience and good sportsmanship. I am hoping that by reading this book right before they headed off the middle school, they carried the messgage of kindness, hard work and determination with them. Middle school is a challenging time and this book really stressed the importance of acceptance of others and ones self. I hope they look back on time we spent reading this book in class with fond memories as well. Almost 40 years later, I still remember the book my fifth grade teacher read to us in class. My students were so eager to try out all of the new seating options and they couldn't wait to get a hold of some of the new plushy friends. Each item has become an important part of our classroom. \r\n\r\nThe wobble stools are the new favorite seating choice in the classroom. Students are able to get the movement they need which helps them regulate their bodies which in turn helps them focus and learn. The textured seat cushions provide sensory support as well as movement and the rocker seats have been named \"turtle shells\" due to their green color. My students use them when we do small group work in the hallway outside of our classroom. Sitting on the floor in their \"turtle shells\", students can still get some movement and sensory support. \r\n\r\nThe weighted plush items have become our unofficial class mascots and all the students really love them. For the students that don't need the sensory support, they are simply sweet stuffed animals that bring some lighthearted fun and coziness to our space. For the students that do need the support, they are helpful tools that students use when they are feeling restless or anxious that help calm their bodies and focus their minds.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has made a huge impact on our classroom and we all thank you from the bottom of our hearts.","fullyFundedDate":1734129380848,"projectUrl":"project/why-sit-still-when-you-can-rock/8799955/","projectTitle":"Why Sit Still When You Can Rock?","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lapidus","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp252768_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1473469000551","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tlapidus"},{"teacherId":2434114,"projectId":9039219,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donations.
