These materials were so much more than gifts—they became tools for building literacy, creativity, confidence, and connection in our classroom community.\r\n\r\nReading is one of the most important parts of our day in kindergarten. Our classroom is full of little readers who are just beginning to discover the magic of books. The new Pete the Cat collections were especially loved by students because the stories are engaging, repetitive, and accessible for early readers. These books helped students practice foundational literacy skills such as identifying sight words, recognizing rhyming patterns, building reading stamina, and learning how to use picture clues to make meaning from text. Many students also practiced retelling stories, identifying characters and emotions, and making connections between books and their own lives.\r\n\r\nOne of the most special moments was watching students proudly take books home that belonged to them. For many children, this was one of the very first books they have ever owned personally. Students were so excited to read with siblings and family members at home, and many returned to school eager to share their favorite parts of the stories with classmates.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe scented bookmarks, and stickers created moments of calm, creativity, and self-expression. Students arrived in pajamas full of excitement, rang their bells during the story, and enjoyed hot chocolate together as a classroom family.
