My students were incredibly excited when they first saw all of the new games, toys, and hands-on materials. They immediately wanted to explore everything, and it was so special to see their excitement about materials that were chosen specifically to support their communication and social-emotional growth.\r\n\r\nWe have been using these resources during speech and language sessions to make learning more engaging and meaningful. Games like Guess Who?, Connect 4, and Don't Break the Ice have been wonderful for practicing turn-taking, asking and answering questions, following directions, and using language with peers. The building materials and pretend-play sets have given students opportunities to work together, problem-solve, describe their ideas, and practice flexible thinking. We have also been using the sequencing, sentence-building, and communication materials to target storytelling, vocabulary, sentence formulation, and expressing thoughts and feelings.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite things to see has been students becoming so engaged in an activity that they don't even realize how many communication skills they are practicing! These materials have helped create opportunities for students to learn through play while building confidence interacting with both adults and their peers.\r\n\r\nAs we start a new school year, I am so excited to continue using these materials with both returning and new students. We will use them to build on each student's individual communication goals while creating even more opportunities for cooperative play, conversation, problem-solving, emotional regulation, and expressing ideas independently. They especially loved that it came with a little car that they could make move with the magnets and a case that had magnetic sand that they were able to move around.\r\n The next steps that we have planned is for the students to go on a magnetism hunt in the classroom using a checklist to see which items in the classroom are magnetic. Many of my students learn best through visuals and hands-on activities, so having access to a laptop helps bring lessons to life in ways that traditional paper activities sometimes cannot. It also gives me the opportunity to differentiate instruction and support students at their individual learning levels.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for my students is simply having the opportunity to use technology as part of their everyday learning experience. They are eager to participate when lessons involve the laptop, and even students who are usually hesitant become more confident and motivated. The ability to listen to stories, play educational games, practice letters and numbers, and engage in interactive activities has increased both participation and enthusiasm in the classroom. Students are also able to use the laptop during downtime in our cozy corner, where they can independently explore educational activities in a calm and comfortable space. In addition, they are excited to create projects on Canva, which allows them to express their creativity while building technology skills at the same time.\r\n\r\nSeveral students in particular have especially warmed up to this new technology. Some of my quieter students have become more engaged during lessons because technology gives them another way to express themselves and participate comfortably. I have also seen students who struggle with attention stay focused for longer periods of time when using interactive learning programs and creative projects.
