My students are special education students and at the beginning of the school year were all non-readers. Through the use of various phonetic programs I am happy to say that they are all currently reading, some are not on grade level but have made significant progress with their reading skills. My school is located in a very economically challenged part of New York City. Books are often left off the shopping list. Ninety-eight percent of the children receive free lunches.
