Your kindness has already made a meaningful impact on our students and the services we are able to provide each day. The iPads have become an exciting and valuable tool that helps students engage in counseling activities in ways that feel interactive, supportive, and accessible.\r\n\r\nThrough the use of the iPads, students are able to participate in social-emotional learning activities, calming exercises, coping skills practice, and interactive counseling games that support emotional regulation, communication, and problem-solving skills. Many students are more comfortable expressing their thoughts and feelings through digital activities, drawing tools, and guided social-emotional apps. The technology has helped increase student engagement during both individual and small group counseling sessions, especially for students who benefit from visual and hands-on learning experiences.\r\n\r\nThe students have been especially excited about using the iPads during counseling groups and classroom lessons. They enjoy interactive activities that allow them to practice identifying emotions, solving social situations, and learning coping strategies in a fun and meaningful way. Some students who are typically hesitant to participate have become much more engaged and willing to share when using the technology. It has been wonderful to watch students build confidence, strengthen peer connections, and develop important emotional skills with the support of these new resources.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is helping create a more supportive and engaging learning environment for our students, and we are truly grateful for your investment in their growth and well-being. The materials you provided have already made a meaningful difference in our counseling program and school community. Students were immediately excited and curious when they first saw the new sensory tools, especially the liquid floor tiles and light table. Many students were eager to explore the calming colors, textures, and movement, and the sensory space quickly became a welcoming environment where students feel safe, supported, and ready to regulate their emotions.\r\n\r\nWe are using the sensory materials during counseling sessions, social-emotional learning activities, and regulation breaks throughout the school day. The comfy floor seats have created a cozy and calming space where students can relax while practicing coping strategies or participating in counseling conversations. The sensory floor tiles and fidgets have been especially helpful for students who benefit from movement and tactile input to stay focused and calm. One particularly meaningful moment occurred when a student who often struggles with frustration used the sensory space independently to calm down and then successfully returned to class ready to learn. The light table has also become a favorite tool during small group sessions, helping students engage in calming activities, mindfulness exercises, and creative expression.\r\n\r\nThese resources are helping students strengthen important self-regulation, communication, and coping skills that support both academic and social success. Moving forward, we plan to continue incorporating the sensory space into counseling groups, emotional regulation lessons, and structured calming breaks for students who need additional support throughout the school day. We are incredibly grateful for your kindness and investment in our students' well-being. Your support has helped create a positive space where students can feel comfortable, successful, and cared for each day.","fullyFundedDate":1777914362727,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-space/10077169/","projectTitle":"Sensory Space","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Anastasia Frangos","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8105038_orig.jpg?crop=1956,1956,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1648578901927","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8105038"},{"teacherId":8105038,"projectId":10058849,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting a project that empowers students to lead with creativity and compassion. The LEGO Creator set and LEGO sunflowers immediately became a centerpiece for collaboration: students worked in small teams to follow directions, experiment with different builds, and then combine pieces to create a classroom \"garden\" display. That project sparked conversation about following steps, sharing tools, and celebrating each team's creative choices. The finished display now lives near our calm corner and students take pride explaining their designs to peers and visitors.\r\n\r\nThe Thinking Putty and the Kasfalci Feelings Chart have become essential tools for emotional regulation and vocabulary-building. During a recent math rotation that felt challenging for some students, several children used the putty at our reflection table to calm down and return to tasks with renewed focus. We also use the feelings chart during morning meetings and after conflicts; students point to and name emotions, role-play appropriate responses, and record one small goal for the day. The LED clock helps students manage time during centers and transitions, giving them visible cues that reduce anxiety around task changes.","fullyFundedDate":1762267473205,"projectUrl":"project/support-tools/9855430/","projectTitle":"Support Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Anastasia Frangos","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8105038_orig.jpg?crop=1956,1956,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1648578901927","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8105038"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_55","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":605,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":14,"percentAsian":12,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":7,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.0,"schoolId":55,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 158 the Bayard Taylor School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 158 the Bayard Taylor School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-158-bayard-taylor/55"}
