We as educators should begin to view our primary students as capable beings of piecing together the world around them. My students have showcased time and time again that they crave a deeper understanding of the cultural backgrounds that surround them. However, our school has not provided sufficient tools for my students to explore the topic of diversity and culture. Help me give my students books that can serve as “mirrors”, “windows”, and “sliding glass doors” of everyone’s culture. These books will benefit my classroom by encouraging inclusiveness and promoting healthy cultural expression. My classroom aims to be a safe space for all and this would be a great step in that direction.
