From prototyping solutions for real-world problems to seeing their digital creations come to life, your support has sparked a new level of confidence and curiosity in these young minds.\r\nWatching their faces light up as the printer begins a new project is a constant reminder of the impact you've made. Some of them even asked, \"Those are for us? We get to use those?\" They couldn't believe it! \r\n\r\nWith the instruments previously available and the materials gained from this project, we were able to repair some instruments, provide method books to students, and officially implement a proper fourth grade concert band by combining two fourth grade classes. We also have two fifth grade classes in a modern band setting as well as another fourth grade class learning how to play keyboard. \r\n\r\nThe images shown below display how some of the donations are being used. There is a guitar with new strings, a clarinet with a working mouthpiece, as well as a trumpet and trombone with new mouthpieces that were previously missing, the drum set carpet to prevent from sliding, and the shelf containing our methods books as well as some keyboards. \r\n\r\nWe are now several months into our band program and the students are progressing towards learning more songs, with more techniques and notes being used on their instruments. Next, we will be tackling some short excerpts of movie soundtracks and other popular songs. \r\n\r\nI can't thank you enough for your support in helping me build this program. These resources are already making a meaningful difference for my students—many of whom are non-verbal or use communication devices—and they are thriving in ways that truly warm my heart.\r\n\r\nDuring a recent session, we introduced the Kasfalci Feelings Chart and Gel-Bead Emotion Friends. One student who typically struggles to express emotions used the chart to point to \"happy\" after completing a puzzle—a huge breakthrough! The sensory tools like the weighted butterfly and liquid motion bubblers have been essential for helping students regulate during challenging moments, allowing them to stay engaged and calm while learning.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, the excitement was contagious! Students immediately gravitated toward the colorful, tactile items. One child hugged the weighted butterfly and smiled—a simple gesture that spoke volumes about how comforting these tools are. For many of my learners, these resources aren't just \"fun\"; they're lifelines for communication and emotional security.\r\n\r\nWe're now diving into language-rich activities like the Build-A-Sentence Literacy Game and Storyteller Writing Box. These tools will help students practice sentence-building and storytelling in a hands-on, playful way. In the 2024-2025 school year, my students were able to enjoy a safe and collaborative learning space and experience making music with various instruments. Now they are connecting different types of sounds to rhythms and melodies thanks to the experiential learning we have been employing as a result of your contributions.\r\n\r\nMy students eyes lit up when they first saw the guitars. They were mesmerized when I was able to plug in the keyboards for them so they could play notes and chords. And even grades as young as Pre-K were beginning to hold drumsticks the proper way and play simple rhythms. \r\n\r\nThis year, we are looking to expand the band program to 4th and 5th graders, with the instruments that are now here in the classroom. There are guitars, keyboards, drums, as well as some brass and woodwind instruments. I want to give the students the opportunity to choose an instrument they want to play and show them the progress they can make over the course of practicing as a group and on their own time for a full school year. For the younger grades, everyone will be singing, moving, and performing rhythms with various instruments. The second grade will also learn to play simple melodies on the glockenspiel. \r\n\r\nI am very much looking forward to continued success this year at P.S. 128.
