One of the students said \"Ms... is that for us?\". It felt so rewarding to be able to tell them yes. So far the students had chosen a variety of items as their incentives, ranging from the mini rubix cubes to the lucky charms cereal bar, to the rainbow scratch off and more! The reward bin has been a hit in the classroom and has been something that the students look forward to. \r\n\r\nCurrently, my students are reading the novel 'A Long Walk To Water\". They are learning about the journey of Salva, a refugee as he travels through the dessert at just 11 years old. Alongside of his story is another story, one of a fictional character named Nya, who shows readers some of the everyday struggles that people in South Sudan faced. Today specifically, I guided the students through a close read of an article called \"The Lost Girls\". During longer lessons or project-based learning sessions, students are able to grab a healthy snack, take a quick reset, and return ready to collaborate and think clearly. The snacks kept their energy high during brainstorming sessions and helped them power through presentations with confidence.\r\n\r\nWhen the snack bins were first introduced, the students were overjoyed. At the end of the period, I acknowledge one of the students hard work throughout the class period, and let her choose a reward. When she pulled out a friendship bracelet box, everyone was shocked. I was meant with excitement and curiosity as students were asking \" Ms, what's in there?\", \"Ms, what's that?\". The next days I then had students ask me when is the rewards bin coming back. The rewards bin have brought joy and excitement to my 7th graders. \r\n\r\nCurrently the students are being introduced to and learning about The Harlem Renaissance.
