Our high school students are highly motivated, intellectually engaged readers of all levels. They are extremely opinionated and enjoy debating all aspects of the texts we read. When they get a choice of books to read in a group, they anxiously scan the room for new books and jump at the chance to be the first ones to choose. Our school is a 6-12 community school located in the South Bronx and serves students primarily from the neighborhood. Teachers get to build deep and lasting relationships with students and get to watch them grow from energetic and excitable 6th graders into well-spoken, mature, and powerful graduating seniors, ready to take on the world.
