With the new vermicomposting materials, our classroom has transformed into a living laboratory where students actively observe how energy flows through ecosystems. Each day, students collect food scraps, monitor our worm bins, and track how organic matter breaks down into nutrient-rich soil. One powerful moment came when students noticed how quickly the worms processed fruit peels compared to paper—sparking a deep discussion about decomposition rates and energy transfer.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate and unforgettable. Students gathered around the bins, equal parts curious and amazed, asking questions, making predictions, and even naming some of the worms. For many, this was their first time seeing composting in action, and it turned what could have been an abstract concept into something tangible and meaningful. Even students who were initially hesitant quickly became some of our most engaged scientists, eagerly volunteering to help maintain the habitat and record observations.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will use their observations to build models of energy flow and nutrient cycling, connecting their worm bin experiences to larger ecological systems. They will also design small investigations—testing variables like moisture, temperature, and food type—to better understand what helps organisms thrive. Your support has not only enriched our current learning but has sparked curiosity, responsibility, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Students now have the option to modify different poses when they feel they need to. The blocks help students maintain their balance when we do standing/balancing poses. We also use the yoga blocks to prop up different parts of our bodies for restorative poses. After we build heat up in our bodies, we can rest, using the blocks, to stretch specific areas of the body. These books have opened up meaningful conversations about cooperation, balance, and empathy, helping students see reading as a way to understand both the world and one another.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and shared. Students read independently and with peers, pause often to talk through ideas, and use journals and discussions to reflect on what they're learning. The books invite students to slow down, listen closely, and respond thoughtfully, making reading a collaborative and engaging experience.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were once hesitant readers are now some of the most enthusiastic. They are excited to see themes that connect to their lives and values, and they take pride in sharing insights during discussions. As we gear up to write paper pen pal letters to a class in France in my French 1 class, this printer will be an invaluable resource for students to print out pictures of themselves and their families to include with their writing. Even before then, this printer has been a huge help this year in a school where over 90 teachers have access to only two community printers for the entire school. Not only have I been able to use it to print out originals of worksheets I have created in order to photocopy them for my classes, but the scanner function on it has allowed students who have lost their notes to make a quick copy in class of another student's notes so they can immediately keep up with classwork. \r\nAgain, I can't even begin to share how appreciative I am for your help.","fullyFundedDate":1755369414104,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-color-printer/9598938/","projectTitle":"Classroom Color Printer","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Baxter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1531024_orig.jpg?crop=1208,1208,x0,y96&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1604352268498","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1531024"},{"teacherId":1496898,"projectId":9246167,"letterContent":"We've been using the new materials to launch our Maglev Train Project, where students explore magnetic fields and forces through hands-on investigation. Each group is building their own model Maglev track and train to learn how magnets can be used to create levitation and motion. One of the most exciting moments was when students successfully got their first train to hover—there was an immediate mix of cheers, curiosity, and a flurry of measuring and redesigning as they experimented with different magnet placements to improve stability. When the boxes of materials first arrived, the excitement in the room was instant. Students crowded around, eager to see the magnets, foam board, and train-building supplies. Many began predicting how the magnets would work before the lesson even started, and some challenged themselves to see who could make their train float the highest, setting a joyful and curious tone for the entire project.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for our students involve testing and refining their Maglev designs, collecting data on levitation height and train speed to analyze how magnetic forces affect motion. Using this data, students will write scientific explanations to connect their observations to the principles of magnetism. Each group will then present their final design and findings to the class, sharing both their successes and the challenges they overcame along the way. This project is not only deepening their understanding of science concepts, but also strengthening their collaboration, problem-solving, and engineering skills.","fullyFundedDate":1744345808085,"projectUrl":"project/building-floating-maglev-train-and-elect/9246167/","projectTitle":"Building Floating Maglev Train and Electromagnets","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. King","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1496898_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1479344873349","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/melsscience"},{"teacherId":5219885,"projectId":9073864,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your contributions to enhancing our space.
