Because of your support, I was able to create an art room library filled with art-related picture books that celebrate diverse artists, identities, and experiences. These books have truly transformed both my teaching and my students' learning experiences.\r\nWhen I first imagined this project, I hoped to provide my students with stories where they could see themselves reflected, inspiring them to become artists, creators, and thinkers. Thanks to you, that vision has come to life. Our new art library features powerful stories about artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Alma Thomas.\r\nFor my younger students, I now begin each art lesson by reading aloud a story about an artist. These moments spark excitement, curiosity, and connection. My older students are able to choose books independently, diving deeper into the lives and ideas of artists who inspire them.\r\nThe impact on student learning has been remarkable. Students are not only learning about artistic techniques, but they're also strengthening literacy skills, building empathy, and developing confidence in their own creative voices. They're asking thoughtful questions, taking creative risks, and showing a deeper appreciation for both visual art and storytelling.\r\nThese materials have also allowed me to build a stronger literacy component into my art curriculum, something I've wanted to do for a long time. Storytelling now serves as a bridge between reading and creating: after hearing a story, students have a deeper understanding of the artist and that often translates to how they create their own artwork. \r\nThank you again for helping make this possible. Your generosity didn't just provide books it opened imaginations, inspired young artists, and helped every student feel that their story belongs in art, too.","fullyFundedDate":1746747916241,"projectUrl":"project/diverse-artists-stories/9103871/","projectTitle":"Diverse Artists Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gant","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4969803_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1534449518233","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4969803"},{"teacherId":4969803,"projectId":9094234,"letterContent":"My students truly love to draw, and these books have quickly become a favorite resource. The books are giving students the chance to build real skills and confidence in their artwork. For many children, having step-by-step guide and examples to look at has opened up new possibilities they feel inspired to try new ideas, and many are now drawing on their own outside of class with more excitement than ever.\r\nThe books are an excellent resource for sparking creativity and supporting learning in meaningful ways. I've seen students light up as they discover, \"I can do this!\" They are gaining both technique and self-assurance, which will stay with them far beyond the art room.\r\nThank you so much for making this difference.
