The Air Toobz have added a totally new dimension to their play. It's been amazing to watch them think so creatively as they figure out how to use air and wind to move a ball through a maze they've built. They aren't just watching things fall anymore; they're learning how to direct an invisible force.\r\n\r\nIn our community, school is often the place where children get their first real chance to take the lead. By giving them materials they can actually control and redesign, you're helping them see themselves as real problem-solvers. That same energetic atmosphere has been created in our classroom, which was transformed into a sea of red to welcome a new year full of prosperity and luck. Families were able to experience this firsthand during our red envelope making event, where parents and children came together to celebrate the occasion and craft their own hong bao just in time to gallop into the Year of the Horse.\r\n\r\nThroughout the month, our students listened to stories about how different cultures welcome the spring and the legend of the Great Race that determined the order of the Chinese Zodiac. Because of your generosity, our students are now warm, comfortable, and ready to keep learning—even when winter doesn't play fair.\r\n\r\nNew York winters are unpredictable. One week we're outside in 50-degree weather, the next it drops to 30, and suddenly we're facing temperatures in the teens. For young children who are born explorers, that kind of swing can easily mean fewer chances to move, investigate, and experience the world firsthand. Thanks to this project, it doesn't have to.\r\n\r\nWith the hats, gloves, and scarves you helped provide, our 18 little adventurers are fully bundled and ready to take on winter. Now they can step outside without hesitation—feeling snow crunch under their boots, watching their breath form clouds in the air, and noticing how ice melts when the sun comes out. These moments may seem small, but they are powerful. They are science, sensory learning, and joy all wrapped into one.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your support sends a clear message to our students: learning doesn't stop when the weather changes. Because of you, our shelves now include stories that my students don't just listen to—they lean into.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest hits has been Jon Klassen's Circle, Triangle, and Square. From the very first read, the children were glued to the pages. They laughed at the dry humor, waited in suspense for the quiet twists, and quickly formed opinions about each character. Even my most active learners sat still, eyes locked on the book, fully invested in what these simple shapes were going to do next.\r\n\r\nWhat's powerful about these stories is how deceptively simple they are. The children don't just enjoy the silliness—they talk about motives, fairness, and feelings. \"Triangle is tricky.\" \"Square didn't know.\" \"Circle was honest.\" These books opened the door for rich conversations, prediction, and critical thinking, all through characters they instantly fell in love with.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students are discovering a new generation of authors who write stories that stay with them. These are the kinds of books children ask to hear again and again, the ones they \"read\" to each other during free choice, and the ones they proudly bring home to share with their families.\r\n\r\nYou didn't just donate books—you helped create moments of joy, connection, and curiosity that are shaping how my students see themselves as readers. Looking ahead, we're building on this momentum. Next, we'll be using the materials as part of our unit on engineering design: students will plan, build, test, and re-design their creations to solve real-world problems. I'm confident these explorations will deepen their understanding of science, measurement, structural strength, and creative problem solving.\r\n\r\nUltimately, your generosity isn't just giving my students new tools - it's giving them a sense of possibility.
