For instance, last week we used the scissors and craft materials to build roller coasters and bridges to engineer solutions for their storybook character problems. Looking ahead, we're building on this momentum. Next, we'll be using the materials as part of our unit on engineering design: students will plan, build, test, and re-design their creations to solve real-world problems. I'm confident these explorations will deepen their understanding of science, measurement, structural strength, and creative problem solving.\r\n\r\nUltimately, your generosity isn't just giving my students new tools - it's giving them a sense of possibility. Our goal was to gift each student The Pigeon HAS to Go to School! at the beginning of the year, and those books have already made a huge difference.\r\n\r\nGiving the children their own copies immediately helped us connect with them quicker. For many of our Pre-K learners, starting school is a big moment filled with anxiety. Reading the book together, where the Pigeon shares those exact \"first-day jitters,\" made the students feel seen. It showed them that we understand their worries, allowing us to build a warm, positive classroom community right from the start.\r\n\r\nBut the impact extends beyond our classroom. By taking these books home, our students are beginning to associate a positive, fun school experience with a genuine love of books. They get to share the Pigeon's humor and message of perseverance with their families. This helps literacy become a fun, accessible part of their home life and reinforces the importance of reading.\r\n\r\nWe still have the surprise of Will the Pigeon Graduate? waiting for them at the end of the year, which will be a wonderful keepsake to celebrate their big journey into kindergarten.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us turn the first big moments of school into comforting, celebratory, book-filled memories.","fullyFundedDate":1757423952933,"projectUrl":"project/from-first-day-jitters-to-graduation-gig/9446755/","projectTitle":"From First Day Jitters to Graduation Giggles—with The Pigeon!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Andy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1529780_orig.jpg?crop=1178,1178,x45,y459&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742212249326","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ayung"},{"teacherId":1529780,"projectId":9179888,"letterContent":"I wanted to send a huge, personal thank you for your generosity. It's become the key to opening up our classroom world to parents. I've been able to create beautiful newsletters for them to see what's happening every day. More recently, at the start of this year, we sent families a colorful full of pictures magazine featuring our students, so they could see exactly what their child is up to in school.\r\n\r\nImagine being a parent, especially of a pre-K student. That first month of school can be so nerve wracking as their baby is off to school for the first time. Seeing them happy and seeing what they're doing in a digital magazine or video immediately puts them at ease. That visual connection is everything.\r\n\r\nAnd it's not just for the beginning of the year. At the end of last school year, I was able to use the Mac Mini to create a memorable end-of-year video for our pre-K students to send them off into kindergarten.
