Unlike our tubano drums, it is exciting that we can sit on this cajon drum and keep the beat at the same time. Now we can play with a friend while we sing songs and play music games. \r\n\r\nWe have gotten a chance to listen to other cajon players and we learned that the cajon is originally from Peru in South America. Did you know that it has special metal springs inside at the top which makes those higher snare drum-like sounds? We have been looking through the sound hole of our cajons to see how they work. While we saw a reduction of dust with the first air purifier we received from our DonorsChoose project, this second one has proved essential for this extremely large space we learn in. With this new machine, we have been able to cover more area and know that more of the air is being cycled through the filter during each school day. We have seen a notable decrease in surface area dust since you helped us get this machine into our school and we have been able to breathe with ease and sing more confidently knowing that the air purifier is working to help keep the classroom air cleaner than ever before.\r\n\r\nThis air purifier is extremely powerful, easy to move around since it's on wheels and it's relatively quiet which means we can run it at full-force during the school day without it interfering with our lessons. Now with two powerful air purifiers in the room, we are able to talk about why it's important to have them, what they do and why that is so important, especially in a community that is close to an airport and in a high-traffic urban neighborhood has extra large dust particles and pollutants in the air. \r\n\r\nAs musicians, we know that breathing deeply is critical to making a beautiful sound with our voices and instruments like our recorders. They were eager to choose stories, listen to songs, and revisit some of the characters they recognized. Having an additional Toniebox also makes a big difference because more children can enjoy listening at the same time, instead of having to wait for a turn.\r\n\r\nThe new Tonies have also helped bring a wider variety of stories into our classroom. That variety matters, especially for our students who are still developing their English language skills. They get to hear new words, familiar phrases, songs, conversations, and storytelling in a way that feels fun and natural. I love seeing them listen closely, repeat parts they remember, and talk about their favorite stories with their classmates.\r\n\r\nOne of the best parts has been watching quieter students engage with language in a comfortable way. Once it was ready, we sent out letters to our school community, and then the \"waiting game\" began. As donations slowly started to trickle in, our classroom was in the middle of a clothing unit study. This provided the perfect opportunity for our students to learn the art of stewardship.\r\n\r\nUsing the donated items, my students practiced how to truly care for clothes. They learned to fold neatly and even experienced \"old school\" chores by washing clothes by hand using a washboard and our manual washing machine. It was incredible to watch these young learners realize that their small hands were capable of preparing something beautiful for someone else.\r\n\r\nOnce the clothes were cleaned, folded, and hung, we wheeled the rack out to our families. While it started slowly as families got used to the new project, the children's curiosity eventually led the way. Before we knew it, items were \"flying off the racks\" into their new homes!\r\n\r\nIn a world where children outgrow clothing so quickly, it felt wasteful to see perfectly good items discarded. Because of you, those clothes have been given a second life, and our families have a dignified way to support one another.
