My students often reflect a childhood that many individuals share growing up in Queens, NY. They come from hardworking, immigrant families who only want to give their best to their kids in the only ways they know how. Family members consistently speak to me in their home language, sharing their wish of a successful future for their kids. As a result, our students work hard and are more stressed than what you'd expect for typical five year olds. They shuffle through their school day between academic lessons and extracurricular classes with barely twenty minutes for recess. In observing this, I want to transform our students' philosophy so that they understand the crucial balance between working hard, and playing just as hard.
