Seeing the professional-grade vises sparked an immediate wave of enthusiasm—they could not wait to clamp them onto the tables and get their hands on the tools to start creating.\r\n\r\nSince then, the vises have become a central part of our hands-on learning. We are using them to learn the art and science of fly tying, focusing on crafting specific flies that mimic the various aquatic insects that local trout eat. This project allows the students to connect biology and entomology directly to a practical craft, helping them understand trout diets, insect life-cycles, and habitat ecology in a creative, tangible way.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next step is to test our creations in the real world! Once the students have mastered tying a few key pattern flies, we will be studying stream dynamics and water quality before taking our homemade flies out on an upcoming angling field trip. Your support has not only provided our classroom with essential tools, but it has also inspired a deep appreciation for nature and conservation in my students.
