This opportunity allowed me to grow intellectually and creatively, but more importantly, it changed what is possible for my students. Because of you, I was able to complete the IMSE Asynchronous Orton-Gillingham Plus Course —an experience that not only exceeded my expectations, but has impacted the way I support the students I serve.\r\n\r\nThis course was incredibly thorough and, to my surprised, targeted many language skills-not just literacy. I walked away with research-based strategies that I can apply to many of my speech and language therapy sessions. These strategies help strengthen my students' phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, story grammar and narratives skills, as well as syntax and punctuation.\r\n\r\nMany of my students are on the autism spectrum and benefit greatly from the program's repetitive and multisensory techniques, which engage visual, auditory, and kinesthetic pathways. These approaches strengthen automaticity and support students in moving from learning to read to reading to learn. Even small strategies, such as color-coding sight words to highlight phonetic and irregular patterns, and using the Stroop effect to teach color words are already making a difference.\r\n\r\nAs students at my school begin to approach grade level and comprehend what they are reading, they may be recommended for larger, least restrictive classroom environments, and in some cases inclusion programs, where they can learn alongside their typically developing peers with appropriate support. \r\n\r\nThanks to your support, I am now better equipped to help prepare as many students as possible for these opportunities, as inclusive settings can increase confidence, social and academic skills, and overall quality of life.","fullyFundedDate":1758899310220,"projectUrl":"project/learning-to-teach-reading/9593192/","projectTitle":"Learning to Teach Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Diana","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5024122_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1662991906315","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/diana-ruiz"},{"teacherId":9738301,"projectId":9632223,"letterContent":"I would like to express my gratitude and share the positive impact for the key requested resources your generous funding provided: noise-canceling headphones, a wireless microphone, and music theory notebooks. \r\n\r\nThe wireless mini microphone transformed the communication within a performance for a student who could not project well in the show. It attached under her costume and gave her such a boost of confidence! Not only did it alleviate her anxiety, but it allowed her the mobility to dance and perform without being tethered to a stationary mic. The structured music theory notebooks have provided crucial learning support for my students. They give them visual supports, categorize concepts (rhythm, notation, harmony) and foster ownership of progress because they are fun. And with the noise canceling headphones, overwhelming background noises for students with autism are lowered and they are calm, focus, and excited to use the headphones. When my students first saw the caps and wheels, they could barely contain their excitement!\r\nThese accessories did far more than serve as props. They helped students immediately connect to the song's theme, and students imagination, giving them a tangible way to embody movement, character, and storytelling. With the racing caps and steering wheels in hand, students demonstrated increased confidence, stronger stage presence, and clearer intention in their choreography. Movements became sharper and more expressive as students could physically act out the ideas woven throughout the music. The final choreography was more dynamic, cohesive, and memorable because students were able to perform with authenticity and enthusiasm.\r\nThank you for supporting arts education and for helping transform a fun song into a confident, high-energy performance that students will remember with pride.","fullyFundedDate":1758899026460,"projectUrl":"project/life-is-a-highway-come-ride-with-me/9443937/","projectTitle":"Life Is a Highway: Come Ride With Me","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wells","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9738301_orig.jpg?crop=2620,2620,x0,y524&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732489060962","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9738301"},{"teacherId":9781944,"projectId":9092174,"letterContent":"When the new rolling cart and storage bins arrived, my fifth graders' excitement filled the room! They eagerly helped unpack and organize our materials, amazed at how bright and inviting everything looked. It didn't take long for them to start noticing the difference — pencils, notebooks, and reading folders finally had clear, labeled homes. Now, when it's time to transition between subjects, students know exactly where to go. This simple system has brought a new sense of independence and calm to our classroom, especially for my students who thrive on structure and predictability.\r\nWe've already seen how organization supports learning. During our literacy block, for example, students use the bins to quickly grab their writing journals and reading folders. This small change has turned what used to be a chaotic few minutes into a smooth, focused start to every lesson. One student proudly said, \"I like that I don't have to ask where anything goes anymore — I just know!\" These new routines have built responsibility and confidence, helping students take ownership of their space and learning.\r\n\r\nOur next goal is to integrate student leadership roles tied to maintaining our new systems. Each week, students will rotate as \"Organization Leaders,\" taking responsibility for keeping the bins tidy and restocked. This not only reinforces responsibility but also gives students pride in maintaining a learning environment they helped create. Thanks to your generosity, our classroom now feels more efficient, welcoming, and student-centered — a place where organization truly supports success.","fullyFundedDate":1745847084869,"projectUrl":"project/organizing-for-success-creating-an-effi/9092174/","projectTitle":"Organizing for Success: Creating an Efficient and Accessible Learning Environment","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9781944_orig.jpg?crop=353,353,x56,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732572592044","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/thesuperclass"},{"teacherId":9781944,"projectId":9092108,"letterContent":"When our new Literary Hub arrived, my students' faces lit up with excitement. They were immediately drawn to the colorful bins filled with books, eager to explore stories that matched their interests. Many of them began picking up titles during morning arrival — books about animals, mysteries, and even graphic novels — sparking conversations and curiosity before the day even began. For many of my students, this was the first time they felt ownership over what they read, and that excitement quickly spread throughout the classroom.\r\n\r\nWe've turned the Literary Hub into a daily routine. Each morning, students visit the bins to choose a book that catches their eye. Then, they respond to a morning writing prompt connected to what they're reading — sometimes predicting what will happen next, describing a character, or making a personal connection to the story. This small addition has had a big impact: students are more eager to write, and their reading comprehension and vocabulary have noticeably improved.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to expand our Literary Hub by adding seasonal themes and student-recommended books. My goal is to have students take more leadership — helping organize the bins, create book displays, and even design their own writing prompts inspired by what they're reading. Thanks to your kindness, we reached our $175 goal and now have a well-stocked supply of healthy snacks to support our students throughout the school day.\r\nThe impact of your contribution is already visible in our classroom. The variety pack of snacks you helped provide – including Goldfish crackers, Cheez-Its, granola bars, pretzels, and juice pouches – has become an essential resource for ensuring no student goes hungry during their learning time.\r\nSince receiving these snacks, I've witnessed remarkable changes in my students. Children who previously struggled to concentrate during morning lessons now have the fuel they need to engage fully in learning. The granola bars have been particularly valuable for providing lasting energy, while the variety of options ensures every student can find something they enjoy.\r\nYour support has helped us:\r\n\r\nProvide breakfast for students who arrive at school hungry\r\nOffer healthy energy boosts during long testing periods\r\nSupport students who may not have packed snacks from home\r\nCreate a more inclusive classroom where no child feels left out during snack time\r\nRemove hunger as a barrier to learning and participation\r\n\r\nWhat touches me most is watching a student's face light up when offered a snack, knowing that this simple gesture helps them feel cared for and ready to learn. These moments remind me that education is about more than academics – it's about nurturing the whole child.\r\nThe shelf-stable, portion-controlled snacks you provided are perfect for our classroom needs. They're easy to distribute, appeals to different tastes, and most importantly, they give students the energy they need to focus on their education rather than their empty stomachs.\r\nYou've invested in more than just snacks – you've invested in student success. When children's basic needs are met, they're better able to participate, learn, and reach their full potential. Your contribution ensures that hunger will never stand in the way of a child's education in our classroom.\r\nAs we continue through the school year, your gift will keep making a difference. Every snack shared represents a moment when a student can focus on learning instead of hunger, participate instead of struggling, and feel supported instead of overlooked.\r\nThank you for understanding that nourishing our students' bodies is just as important as nourishing their minds.
