It brought calm and a sense of wonder.\r\n\r\nYour gifts of having the books about the human body help explain to my students to stop and look at the self-regulation breathing, visualization and do the opposite of yelling, hurting, and harming with these self-care practices.\r\n\r\nHaving these visual and auditory items gives agency and choice to each student with special needs when they walk into the counseling room. They are new to using a tongue scraper and the different types of floss were fun for them.\r\n\r\nThey could not believe how clean their mouths felt after going through the full dental hygiene routine. Using iPads as their design hub, students explored AR tools, digital sketching, and 3D modeling to prototype adaptive cardboard furniture for individuals with mobility and accessibility needs across NYC.\r\n\r\nThey gained meaningful empathy by virtually experiencing daily challenges faced by wheelchair users and others, and they applied that understanding as they built and tested full-scale cardboard prototypes.
