We can not thank you enough. We are currently using our new resources for our calming break room that functions as both a sensory-friendly retreat and a vocational learning space. This dual-purpose project has allowed students to actively participate in setting up the room by organizing supplies, assembling furniture, and establishing routines. A particularly meaningful moment occurred when one of our students, who typically struggles with transitions, independently restocked and organized the mini fridge and proudly explained the process to a peer. It was a powerful demonstration of how the calming environment is already promoting confidence, independence, and social engagement.\r\n\r\nThe next steps involve implementing structured vocational tasks within the calming break room. Students will begin practicing real-world skills such as operating small kitchen appliances, managing their time during tasks, and maintaining cleanliness and organization. We will also start introducing workplace etiquette scenarios, such as taking appropriate breaks and interacting respectfully with peers and supervisors. These steps aim to reinforce life skills and career readiness in a supportive, low-stress environment, ultimately preparing our students for greater independence and success beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1740771792646,"projectUrl":"project/calming-break-room/9110066/","projectTitle":"Calming Break Room","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Molly","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5402834"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_96839","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":18,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":56,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"US Census Data for the surrounding geographic area","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"Census ZCTA","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":59.1,"schoolId":96839,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 138M @ Park West High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 138M @ Park West High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/district-75-city-wide-programs/ps-138m-park-west/96839"}
