The iPad has become a powerful part of our daily lessons—helping my non-speaking students with autism explore new ways to communicate, participate, and learn. Through interactive AAC apps, they're now able to make choices, express feelings, and share ideas that were once difficult to convey. It's truly amazing to see how technology has opened doors for them in such meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students the most is how engaging and personal the new tools are. They light up when they hear their selected words spoken aloud or when they can use pictures to communicate what they want. The interactive design of the communication apps keeps them motivated and helps them feel empowered, capable, and proud of their progress. Additional apps, such as a \"bubble pop\" game, provides students with foundational skills for using speech devices with voice output by targeting finger isolation and activating the screen. \r\n\r\nOne student, in particular, has especially warmed up to this new technology. Last school year, they struggled to make their needs known and often became frustrated. Now, using the programmatic iPad, they independently request their favorite activities and greet their peers during group time. Seeing their confidence grow and their smile when they are understood for the first time has been one of the most rewarding moments of my educational career.
