Our students with special needs benefit greatly from participating in the school garden program. Planting, caring for, and harvesting fruits, vegetables, and flowers builds responsibility, confidence, and patience while supporting sensory engagement, social interaction, and emotional well-being. As a therapeutic environment, the garden helps reduce stress, improve focus, and promote positive mental health. Students also gain job-readiness skills by preparing, packaging, and selling produce through the school store, developing teamwork, communication, customer service, money handling, and time-management skills. The garden fosters independence, self-esteem, and a sense of accomplishment while serving as an extension of the classroom through hands-on learning. It also strengthens community connections by bringing together students, staff, and families to support and celebrate student success.
