By learning how to draw pictures they have a better basis to tell stories. We started with our scribble unit. Students were able to add to pictures little by little. Task were not as overwhelming.\r\n Then we used shapes to draw pictures. This helped us when we learned how to tell a story with setting and characters. The books were amazing texts to refer back to over and over again. \r\n Our little hands love our golf pencils. A variety of pencil grips have given us the ability to draw a write with ease. Less strain on our hands mean more time on task. These items have given us the ability to start our year on the \"write\" track.","fullyFundedDate":1755873841386,"projectUrl":"project/we-can-write/9579438/","projectTitle":"We Can Write!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dammers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1405446"},{"teacherId":3523170,"projectId":9081520,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation to our third grade classroom. We use the construction paper on a regular basis for artwork and to display student work on our class bulletin board. Additionally, the students love using markers for projects, as well as color coding writing activities. They frequently dry out. Therefore, the class set of markers have been shared amongst the students and stored neatly in the container, as opposed to in their desks. I think next year they will work wonderfully in setting the tone in September. They are beautiful books full of wonderful messages of inclusivity and belonging. \r\n Since we have already started the year, we used the books differently than I will next September. I used these highly engaging books to help my students start writing Book Reviews as part of our Persuasive Writing unit. We read the book an discussed it a great deal. There were many great moments for them to turn and talk. These are opportunities to discuss what we are reading. This is a great tool to deepen understanding especially for those students hesitant to raise their hand and share out. \r\n I induced a few samples of their work. As you can see, kindergarten writing starts out with a great deal of invented spelling. This is when students write the letters they hear. We are able to write beginning and ending sounds with good success. Middle sounds are tricky. The students thought \"It was fun\" and some thought \"it was scary.\" Everyone was thankful for such wonderful books.","fullyFundedDate":1727986251629,"projectUrl":"project/read-it-rock-it/8661519/","projectTitle":"Read it!
