In the 1st grade classroom I co-teach in, the students had Flashlight Friday where they were able to choose a favorite book and a comfy spot and we dimmed the lights and passed out the flashlights for them to \"flashlight read\" and they enjoyed it so very much. This class has many students with special needs who often do not like to sit still or even read a book independently, but this all changed with the flashlights because every child enjoyed this activity and it was very calming for all. \r\nWe also used our flashlights to read books with the small group of beginner ESL students I take to my ESL classroom each day. They felt so proud to do a picture walk or even read simple books with their flashlights! The joy on their faces was simply priceless.\r\nLastly, the second-grade classroom I co-teach in also had a grand time exploring the room with their flashlights for a treasure hunt! It was really fun and exciting and engaged students in a collaborative effort and also brought about wonderful communication for our English language learners.\r\nThank you for bringing us these wonderful experiences this week and for years to come with our mini-flashlights! Finally we completed a reading comprehension worksheet and drew and colored their favorite animals that glow! \r\nEach week we will study a brand new science topic in a similar way and our students will be more knowledgeable, excited to learn and growing their vocabulary every single issue. So every day we have a journal topic which starts with a full color illustration of the topic or prompt or the day, such as My Family, My Favorite Food, I Love Fall and many more. \r\n\r\nAfter drawing and coloring the picture to depict their thoughts, we talk about it and share the picture with our classmates. Finally the students try to write as much as they can about their picture.
