I am requesting magazine subscriptions for my classroom. I used these magazines and online resources and the students absolutely love them. My students love scholastic weekly, and when they hear the word, their faces light up. Scholastic News magazines help our students enrich their background knowledge and understand new vocabulary, but they are also engaging and motivating because of the wonderful videos, photos, and games. Another plus is that it comes in both languages, in English and in Spanish. In class we use it for science and social studies. We preview the magazine, read it together on the board, read it with partners, circle our sight words, and fill out the fun activities that go along with it. As a closing for our lesson we always love playing the interactive games that come along with each topic. This will really make a difference to our students because they get to take the magazine home and share the information they learned with their families. This always is a proud moment for them, especially when they tell their families about current events. Students can also share what they learned online through the website, share the magazine, and read past magazines as well.
