The book serves as both a keepsake and a symbol of encouragement as they continue to grow as learners. The 7th grade class has created rhythms to accompany songs they've composed for Veteran's day, and the 8th grade class is using them to accompany \"From the Start\", by Laufey. \r\nAt the younger grades, Kindergarteners have used them to play the syllables (rhythm) in their names, third graders have used them to create ostinati for songs we are singing, and fourth graders are using them to create rhythms to popular phrases. \r\nWhat I find really interesting is that the Caribbean students and the students with parents from Africa have immediately recognized the drums as instruments from their cultures, and play them at every opportunity they get. \r\nThank you for your support! The Kan Jam sets you helped fund were a huge hit during our physical education classes and on Field Day last spring.\r\n\r\nMany of my students had never played frisbee before, so watching them learn to throw, aim, and strategize together was amazing. What started as curiosity quickly turned into laughter, teamwork, and a little friendly competition. Students practiced communication and collaboration while cheering each other on, and it was clear how much pride they took in improving their skills.\r\n\r\nThe Kan Jam games became more than just an activity, they created opportunities for students to build confidence, sportsmanship, and perseverance. Even students who were hesitant at first found ways to participate and shine. These sets gave them a sense of accomplishment and connection that carried beyond school grounds.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make this possible. The caterpillars and habitat kits you provided gave our students a front-row seat to the wonders of metamorphosis. It's truly was amazing watching their faces light up as they observed each stage, from tiny caterpillar to beautiful chrysalis, and finally, to a vibrant butterfly emerging. The entire class gasped with wonder as we witnessed a butterfly unfurl its wings for the very first time. This hands-on experience has sparked an incredible curiosity and deepened their appreciation for the natural world.\r\nThe excitement in the classroom when the caterpillars first arrived was palpable, transforming quickly into careful, focused observation. The project concluded with a special butterfly release ceremony, where students learned about the vital role these insects play in our ecosystem. We also dove deeper into butterfly migration and life cycles, and expressed our learning through creative art and writing projects. The technology allows them to participate in testing through platforms like I-STATION and NWEA, providing seamless access to their assessments. Moreover, the iPads facilitate access to a variety of educational resources. For example, they can explore ARC BOOKSHELF, which offers a rich selection of books tailored to each student's reading level. Additionally, Khan Academy provides excellent support for improving skills in reading, writing, and math.\r\n\r\nWith the iPads, I can create targeted assignments that cater to each student's needs, allowing for differentiated learning during our \"What I Need\" time. This means that both advanced students and those who need additional support can engage with content that challenges them appropriately.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting aspect of the iPads for my students is the way they enhance interactivity and engagement in the classroom. My students absolutely love their iPad cases! They enjoy propping them up on their desks while participating in various activities, making them feel more involved and invested in their learning. The colorful casings themselves are a delight; when they see them on my desk in the morning, it instantly energizes them, as they anticipate a fun-filled day of exploring resources on platforms like Curioso, reading \"Read-To-Me\" books on Go Epic, or playing educational games on Education.com and Khan Academy.\r\n\r\nMany students have truely thrived with the introduction of this technology. I've observed that those who may have previously struggled to engage in traditional learning scenarios are now more enthusiastic and focused. The ability to interact with content at their own pace, particularly through platforms tailored to their unique learning needs, has empowered them greatly. They have become more willing to take risks in their learning, actively participating in discussions and collaborations during\r\n class activities.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your contributions! The opportunity to bring technology into my classroom has significantly enhanced our learning culture over the past few months, and I'm excited to see how it continues to impact my students' educational journeys.","fullyFundedDate":1736775694373,"projectUrl":"project/protecting-possibilities-ipad-cases-for/9042243/","projectTitle":"Protecting Possibilities: iPad Cases for Young Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. G.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9890037_orig.jpg?crop=925,925,x93,y61&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736395753172","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9890037"},{"teacherId":3166975,"projectId":9036444,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the donations of magnets for assessment, and hoops for hopscotch, centers, and many other activities. My 3th-8th grade students learned how to jump together, keeping a common beat, using the colors of the hoops a a guide to know when to go forward, sideways or backwards. My kindergarteners love using the hoops to organize their instrument petting zoo, where they explore the ways to make sound: scraping, tapping or shaking. The 5th graders use the hoops to practice new notes on the recorder when one student jumps from hoop to hoop, and the rest play the designated notes.\r\n\r\nWe use the magnets at the beginning of every class. I pose a question related to what we are currently learning, and students answer the question as they walk in, by flipping the magnet to the scannable side. This has helped me have a much clearer idea of what the students understand. Books serve as a gateway to knowledge, imagination, and self-discovery. For students from low-income backgrounds, new books symbolize much more than mere reading material—they represent opportunity, equity, and hope.\r\n\r\nLow-income students often face barriers that hinder their academic success, including limited access to educational resources. Research has shown that children from economically disadvantaged households are less likely to have books at home, contributing to a significant literacy gap. Providing new books can help level the playing field, giving these students the tools they need to succeed academically and beyond.\r\n\r\nA new book is not just a source of information but also a portal to endless possibilities. It can spark a child's imagination, inspire creativity, and encourage critical thinking. Books introduce students to diverse cultures, perspectives, and experiences, fostering empathy and understanding. For low-income students, these benefits are particularly critical, as they may not have access to the same enriching experiences as their more affluent peers.\r\n\r\nThe impact of new books extends beyond individual students to entire families and communities. When a child brings a book home, it can ignite a culture of reading within the household. Parents and siblings may join in, creating shared learning experiences that strengthen family bonds. Over time, this can contribute to a more literate and engaged community, where education is valued and prioritized.\r\n\r\nMoreover, receiving new books can boost students' confidence and self-esteem. Many low-income children are acutely aware of the disparities they face. Owning a new book, free of worn pages or missing covers, provides a sense of pride and dignity. It sends a powerful message: they are valued, and their education matters.\r\n\r\nThe emotional and psychological benefits of having access to books cannot be overstated. Reading can provide a safe escape from the stresses of everyday life, offering comfort and inspiration.
