The materials in this project will help students focus on reading interesting topics and expose students to topics that are outside their world view. My students are in a rural school and have limited exposure to many world topics. This project will help my students with phonetic awareness in a fun and exciting way. Students can break up into small groups and discuss the topics that they just read. Students gain confidence by becoming better readers through the use of magazines and interesting topics. Students can help each learn to sound out words from the articles in the Scholastic News magazines.
