The whiteboards, markers, and erasers you helped provide have become essential tools in how we approach learning each day.\r\n\r\nHow We're Using the Resources:\r\nWe've fully implemented the Building Thinking Classrooms approach by Peter Liljedahl. Students now work in randomly assigned groups, standing and solving problems together at vertical whiteboards. This simple shift has made a huge difference. Instead of passively listening, they're actively discussing, debating, and discovering solutions together.\r\n\r\nOne moment that really stood out happened during a recent math lesson on systems of equations. Students were so immersed in problem-solving that they lost track of time—and several didn't want to stop even when the bell rang! They shared different strategies with one another and celebrated each group's successes like a true team.\r\n\r\nTheir First Reaction? Pure Excitement:\r\nWhen the materials first arrived and the whiteboards were mounted, the students were buzzing with curiosity. The idea of writing on walls was already exciting, but once they got started, their enthusiasm turned into real engagement. They loved the freedom to move around, collaborate, and express their thinking visually.\r\n\r\nWhat's Next for Us:\r\nNow that students are comfortable with this new way of learning, we're diving deeper into more complex, open-ended problems that require reasoning and collaboration. We're also starting to reflect more on how we think, not just what we think, helping them become more self-aware and strategic learners.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, we've built more than just thinking classrooms—we've built confidence, curiosity, and community. We are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1738900262015,"projectUrl":"project/help-miss-ivol-build-a-thinking-classroo/9098229/","projectTitle":"Help Miss Ivol Build a Thinking Classroom!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ivol","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3198671_orig.png?crop=648,648,x11,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738767028803","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/missivol"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_81286","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":832,"numTeachers":71,"percentFrplEligible":32,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"4 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":81.6,"schoolId":81286,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Deptford Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Deptford Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/west-deptford-township-school-district/west-deptford-middle-school/81286"}
