It is rare that I use technology in the classroom, but this project has enabled my students to apply what they have learned in our rhythm and melody units to compose an original piece of music. Currently, we are completing the first parts of our compositions and will add chords later.\r\nThe students are most excited to utilize their ipads and chromebooks to complete their work with these MIDI keyboards. It has been fun watching their excitement in class. The TinkerTar Guitars are wonderful for introductory string playing for my younger students and special education classes. The students are currently able to hold and strum the single string while matching some of the colors on the fretboard to the music book. We are learning color recognition, letter names, parts of the instrument, how to care for the instruments, and simple folk songs which are in the music book. Hopefully, we will be able to play these songs in the future on our TinkerTar Guitars and share our performance with our families. I am aiming for Music in Our Schools Month for this showcase.\r\nWhen the box arrived, the children were so excited as we opened and explored the contents. No more searching for the instrument or mallet during our class times. The best part is seeing each student take more responsibility for setting up their instruments and returning them to the storage area after use.\r\nIf I had to convince you of the value these tables have on our music classes and rehearsals, you would only need to look at the pictures.
