Because of your kindness and generosity, I have been able to create something I am truly proud of: a warm, welcoming space where children can come exactly as they are, feel completely safe, and start to heal. So many of the children I work with carry a lot — big feelings, hard experiences, and the kind of weight that kids shouldn't have to carry alone. Because of you, they now have a place where that weight feels a little lighter. You didn't just fund a project. You changed the way children experience support at school, and that means more than I can put into words.\r\n\r\nEvery session begins with a feelings check-in, and using the Solobo emotion balls has provided students with an engaging way to express themselves. Children come in, look over the colorful plush balls, and choose the ones that match what's going on inside them. Sometimes they grab two or three at once — and that opens up conversations about how it's completely okay to feel more than one thing at a time. For children who struggle to name their emotions, having something soft and physical to hold makes all the difference. It gives them permission to be honest. Beyond check-ins, we use the balls for movement activities like a ball toss, where kids name and identify feelings while staying active, turning emotional learning into something joyful and fun. We also do emotion role play, where children act out different feelings with their whole bodies — stomping around as \"frustrated,\" melting into a puddle as \"exhausted\" — and the giggles that follow are some of the best sounds I've heard all year. In those silly, playful moments, real emotional identification skills are being built. It's the magic of play-based learning, and I am so grateful to have the tools to make it happen.\r\n\r\nAt the end of every session, children choose their own calm-down activity, and almost every time they choose the Harkla Sensory Swing. I love watching a child climb in and just exhale. The soft, cocooning pressure does something wonderful for their nervous systems, and I've found they are much more open to breathing exercises and grounding activities when their body already feels held and safe. On harder days, the Hugimals weighted stuffed animals are there to offer extra comfort — there is something so sweet and powerful about watching a child pull a weighted sloth into their lap and visibly start to settle. The Crazy Aaron's Thinking Putty has also been a beloved staple; kids ask for it the moment they walk in, stretching it, bouncing it, sculpting little animals out of it, keeping their hands busy so their minds can slow down. And the Play Therapy Sandtray might be the most powerful tool in the room — children use it to build whole miniature worlds, process life events, and express things they don't yet have words for. It has opened doors that conversation alone simply could not.\r\n\r\nWhat I want you to know most of all is this: I am seeing real, meaningful progress. Children who once came in shut down and guarded are now running to grab their favorite putty or eagerly picking out their emotion balls. Children who struggled to name a single feeling are now holding up two or three balls and saying, \"I feel this AND this today.\" Children who used to leave sessions still wound up and anxious are now walking back to class calm, grounded, and ready to learn. They have made this space their own — and that sense of ownership is everything. It is where trust is built, where walls come down, and where healing quietly begins. None of it would have been possible without you. You invested in children you have never met, and I hope you know how profoundly that investment is paying off. On behalf of every child who has laughed in this room, cried in this room, and found a little more of themselves in this room: thank you, from the bottom of my heart.","fullyFundedDate":1757348560169,"projectUrl":"project/tools-for-healing-building-emotional-re/9657502/","projectTitle":"Tools for Healing: Building Emotional Resilience in Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Serena","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10228004_orig.png?crop=665,665,x71,y44&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756328940734","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10228004"},{"teacherId":8919637,"projectId":9841261,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for giving fidget spinners to our classroom!
