Having a class set transformed our reading experience because students could actively engage with the text, annotate important details, and participate in meaningful discussions as we read together.\r\n\r\nThrough this novel, students learned important reading skills such as identifying character traits, analyzing character change, determining themes, making predictions, and understanding how an author's choices help develop a story. We also explored the connection between The Chocolate Touch and the King Midas myth, helping students compare texts and recognize how authors use familiar story structures to create new stories.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is highly interactive. Students read independently, with partners, and as a whole class. They discuss their thinking, ask questions, and use evidence from the text to support their ideas. Having their own books allowed students to build confidence and become more engaged readers.\r\n\r\nThe excitement for this project continued beyond reading the novel. Inspired by The Chocolate Touch, students became authors themselves and wrote their own chapter books based on the story structure of the novel and the King Midas tale. Students created original characters, developed problems and solutions, and organized their writing into chapters. Some of my reluctant readers and writers were especially engaged because they could use a story they loved as inspiration for their own creative ideas.\r\n\r\nSeeing students proudly share their completed chapter books with classmates was a highlight of the year. Your donation provided much more than books—it gave students the opportunity to grow as readers, writers, and storytellers. Your generosity has made a huge difference in our daily learning environment, and we are so grateful for the snacks, cleaning supplies, and office materials you helped provide for our students.\r\n\r\nWe have already begun using these resources every single day. The office supplies are helping students stay organized and prepared during writing, math, and reading activities. The cleaning supplies are helping us maintain a safe and healthy classroom where students feel comfortable learning together. The snacks have been especially meaningful because they help students stay focused, energized, and ready to participate throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nOne special classroom moment happened when students saw the snack bins and new supplies for the first time. They were excited and thankful, and several students immediately said things like, \"Now everyone can have what they need!\" It was a wonderful reminder of how much these resources impact students not only academically, but emotionally as well. They truly feel cared for and supported.\r\n\r\nRight now, our class is working on collaborative reading and writing activities where students are learning how to express their ideas clearly and work together respectfully. Because of your donations, students have the materials they need to fully participate and stay engaged in these lessons. My students start each morning by grabbing a healthy snack, which helps them settle in, refocus, and get ready for learning. One of my favorite moments so far happened during a collaborative writing activity: a student who often struggles to stay engaged quietly grabbed a granola bar, took a deep breath, and then jumped right into the discussion with his group. It was such a small moment, but it showed how meeting basic needs can open the door to real participation and confidence.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the snacks and cleaning supplies, their reactions were priceless. Several students immediately said, \"¿Para nosotros?\" with huge smiles. Others helped me unpack the boxes and proudly organized everything on our classroom shelves. The cleaning supplies also made a big impression—students love using the Swiffer to help keep our room fresh and welcoming. They could feel that these items were chosen with care, and that sense of being valued made them stand a little taller.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, they have exactly what they need to keep growing—the nourishment, the comfort, and the sense of dignity that allow them to learn with confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1768904352950,"projectUrl":"project/brainboosting-bites/10043179/","projectTitle":"Brain‑Boosting Bites","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ruberte","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9989090"},{"teacherId":3275861,"projectId":9938507,"letterContent":"The children in my class hsve enjoyed working and creating with the various magna tiles sets that came their way.
