Thanks to our donors, my students now have access to engaging books that encourage them to read, think critically, make connections, and discover the enjoyment that can come from finding the right book.\r\n\r\nThese new texts have allowed us to strengthen important reading and language arts skills, including identifying theme, analyzing characters, making inferences, citing textual evidence, understanding figurative language, building vocabulary, and making connections between literature and students' own experiences. Just as importantly, the books have helped students practice discussing literature, sharing their opinions, and supporting their ideas with evidence from what they have read.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is about much more than completing an assignment. I want students to see reading as something they can enjoy, explore, and make their own. Students have opportunities to read independently, discuss books with classmates, respond to what they are reading, and recommend books to one another. Having a greater variety of books means students have more opportunities to find stories, characters, and topics that genuinely interest them.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts of this project has been seeing students become excited about choosing a book. Some students who were once reluctant readers are much more willing to pick up a book when they have choices that reflect their interests and reading levels. I have watched students talk enthusiastically with classmates about what they are reading, ask to continue reading when our reading time is over, and look forward to selecting their next book.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped us create a classroom where books are accessible, reading is encouraged, and students can continue growing as readers and thinkers. Thank you for helping me put inspiring books into the hands of my students and for supporting their growth, curiosity, and love of learning. Your donation did more than provide books—it provided opportunities for students to discover just how powerful reading can be.","fullyFundedDate":1787159939268,"projectUrl":"project/pages-that-inspire-minds-that-grow/10507309/","projectTitle":"Pages that inspire Minds that Grow","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Bugge","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4248827_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1496337456242","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/drbugge"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_80567","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":971,"numTeachers":88,"percentFrplEligible":67,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":33,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":56,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.7,"schoolId":80567,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Garfield Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Garfield Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/garfield-school-district/garfield-middle-school/80567"}
