The tennis balls have made such a nice difference in our classroom by allowing us to move our chairs more quietly and efficiently throughout the day. The seat cushions have also made our floor space much more comfortable when students are working together, participating in discussions, or gathering for lessons. Since our classroom has tile floors, having a softer surface to sit on has made our learning space more inviting and comfortable for everyone, especially because we meet in the floor space a lot. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were so excited to see the tennis balls and immediately wanted to help put them on the chair legs! They thought it was especially fun that something as simple as a tennis ball could make such a big difference in our classroom. They quickly noticed that chairs could be moved much more quietly, which has helped us transition between activities with less noise and disruption. We have a tight space, so we are always pushing in our chairs. It has also made our classroom floor a more comfortable place for collaborative learning and whole-group activities. They loved getting to see the colored cushions, and taking ownership and responsibility of bringing them to the floor space \r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, my students will be using these resources every day as they work on becoming more independent, collaborative learners. We are currently focusing on building strong classroom routines, working together respectfully, and engaging in hands-on learning across subjects. The new materials will continue to support these goals by making it easier for students to move around our classroom, work with partners and groups, and use our floor space comfortably. Students now have the opportunity to choose seating that best supports their focus and learning needs. This flexibility has been especially beneficial during small group work, where students are able to remain more attentive, regulated, and actively involved in their learning. Students have expressed that they enjoy having choice and feel more comfortable throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nThe whiteboard and anchor chart easel have also strengthened small group instruction by making learning more visible and interactive. I am able to model strategies in real time and capture student thinking in a way that remains accessible throughout the lesson. Students regularly refer back to anchor charts and visual supports to guide their independent and group work, which has increased understanding and confidence.\r\n\r\nOverall, these materials have had an immediate and meaningful impact in the classroom. Though they may seem like small adjustments, both supports help create a quieter, more comfortable, and more regulation-friendly learning environment. By reducing distractions and supporting students' physical needs, they allow more energy to be directed toward learning.\r\n\r\nPlacing tennis balls on the bottom of chair legs primarily addresses noise and movement. In many classrooms, the sound of chairs scraping across hard floors can be sudden and disruptive. The result is a calmer auditory environment where students are less likely to become distracted or overstimulated by sharp noises. This is particularly helpful for learners who are sensitive to sound or who struggle to maintain attention amid constant background noise. In addition, smoother chair movement allows students to shift positions or make small adjustments without drawing attention, supporting those who need subtle movement to stay focused.\r\n\r\nSeat cushions support students in a different but complementary way by improving comfort, posture, and sensory regulation. Many classroom chairs are rigid and do not accommodate individual physical needs, which can lead to discomfort and restlessness over time. Cushions—whether foam-based, air-filled, or designed for gentle movement—provide a more supportive seating surface that encourages upright posture and reduces fatigue. Some cushions introduce slight instability, allowing students to make small, controlled movements while seated. These micro-movements can help students who need physical activity to remain attentive, offering a structured and unobtrusive outlet for that need. Additionally, the pressure and subtle motion provided by certain cushions can have a calming effect, helping students regulate their bodies and emotions.\r\n\r\nTogether, these tools contribute to a classroom atmosphere that supports concentration and participation. When students are not distracted by noise or discomfort, they can devote more mental energy to listening, thinking, and engaging with instruction. Teachers also benefit from fewer interruptions and behavior corrections, allowing more time for teaching and learning. Such supports are especially valuable in early elementary settings, in classrooms with hard flooring where noise carries easily, and for students who experience sensory sensitivities or attention challenges.\r\n\r\nYour donation has made a HUGE difference in my classroom and I am eternally thankful!","fullyFundedDate":1770647629258,"projectUrl":"project/comfort-and-focus/10077750/","projectTitle":"Comfort and Focus","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Devlin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10426540"},{"teacherId":9567955,"projectId":9411409,"letterContent":"The donated crochet yarn and hooks have become an exciting new hands-on learning resource in our 3–5 classroom. Students are using the materials during math and STEM rotations to practice patterns, counting, and following step-by-step directions, as well as during choice time to build fine motor skills and perseverance. One especially meaningful moment was when a student who often struggles to stay focused completed their first crochet chain and proudly helped a classmate do the same—turning learning into a collaborative experience.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the yarn and hooks, their reaction was pure excitement and curiosity. Many had never seen crochet tools before and were eager to learn how they worked. The variety of colors immediately sparked creativity, and students began brainstorming what they could make even before instruction began. The materials made learning feel special and tangible, which increased engagement across all grade levels.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, the next steps for students include creating small crochet projects such as bookmarks, keychains, or simple squares. These projects connect to current lessons on measurement, patterns, and growth mindset. Students are also learning patience, problem-solving, and the value of practicing a skill over time. My students and I use it daily to organize and transport materials for different lessons and projects. Instead of juggling bins and carrying supplies across the room, the cart allows us to move everything we need in one trip. For example, during our recent small-group reading rotations, the cart held all of our notebooks and word work materials, which made transitions smoother and helped us spend more time focused on learning. One specific moment that stood out was during our math centers, when students were able to grab manipulatives from the cart independently and return them neatly after use—something that gave them ownership of their learning space.\r\n\r\nWhen the cart first arrived, the students were so excited! They were shocked when I rolled it into the room! Many of them commented on how \"much nicer\" it made our classroom feel, and a few even compared it to a \"teacher toolbox on wheels.\" That joy has carried into their daily routines, because they know exactly where to find what they need. The next steps for us involve using the cart as we prepare for upcoming group projects, especially as we dive into more hands-on STEM activities later this month. The organization and accessibility it provides will continue to support their independence, collaboration, and enthusiasm for learning.","fullyFundedDate":1748457871586,"projectUrl":"project/rolling-into-organization-and-success/9335573/","projectTitle":"Rolling Into Organization and Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Elsaadawi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9567955_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1786487144199","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/salma-elsaadawi"},{"teacherId":2100450,"projectId":6872515,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for all of these materials.
