The title of the project reflects our goal: to \"craft calm, creativity, and connection.\" Thanks to your generous support we have begun to do just that! \r\n\r\nStudents were delighted and surprised when we received the crafting supplies. Your donations allowed us to provide them with materials they have been asking for for quite some time. We rolled the use of the space in sections. We immediately stocked a coloring area where students can color bookmarks and coloring pages. Then, we set up a giant coloring poster for community coloring and quick bursts of stress relief. \r\nThe individual and communal coloring areas are more popular than we could ever imagine! The two tables are regularly filled during our advisory period and four lunch periods. Between 30-50 students visit the coloring area daily. It is by far the most popular community making feature in our library and shows us that students both need and appreciate having an opportunity to create and relax. Additionally, we started offering self-serve craft stations including paper decorations and origami making. \r\n\r\nLastly, in order to help the students use the materials more effectively, we began offering Friday \"Maker Days\" where staff teach a craft to other interested students/staff. Our two most successful \"Maker Days \"have allowed attendees to learn crocheting and loom knitting. Since then, students have returned on additional days to continue working on their projects and we now have students teaching other students these crafts. Plans for upcoming \"Maker Days\" include button making, \"advanced\" coloring like an illustrator with alcohol markers, and washi tape crafts.\r\n\r\n\tThis project has influenced student learning, by providing opportunities for stress relief and positive community building with our students. These opportunities improve our students' mental health which allows them to focus better on their school work and feel more connected to their school community. \r\n\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity and the generosity of both the Burkehaven Family Foundation and Google Teen Mental Health Initiative, we have been able to create a communal space that allows students to explore lifelong hobbies that provide healthy ways to manage stress and improve their mental health.
