The desks are used during independent work, small-group activities, and writing time, especially for students who focus better when they have the option to stand and move while learning. One moment that stood out was during a recent writing lesson when a student who usually struggles to stay engaged chose to use a standing desk and remained focused through the entire activity while completing more work than usual.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the standing desks, they were excited and immediately wanted to know how they would be used in our classroom. They saw them as something special, and many students were eager for a chance to try them. It quickly became clear that the desks were not only motivating but also helped students feel more comfortable and in control of their learning environment.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the year, students will use the standing desks during reading responses, math problem solving, and collaborative projects. We are currently working on activities that require sustained focus and discussion, and having flexible seating options helps students choose the environment where they learn best. These desks are giving students another way to stay engaged, productive, and successful throughout the school day. Throughout all of this, I was assessing instruments, getting to know students and names, and figuring out how to put a concert together in record time.\r\nI had one young student who walked up to me, flute in hand and succinctly said \"I can't play anything!\"\r\nOne pass at the instrument and I looked at him and said \"guess what? it's not you!\" He was so excited that it wasn't his fault! It was heartbreaking that he thought it was even a little! So we sent that instrument for repairs, it came back a week later, mostly functional.\r\nNow we fast forward a little. This young man still didn't really want to play, he was nervous and would rather help me conduct than play his instrument. Well, we got our first new flute and a 5th grader got it, and he was so excited to see someone else get a new instrument. He cheered them on and celebrated with her. Then we got a new student we didn't have an instrument for, and I feel so blessed when I say that project got funded to quickly. He cheered her on and was excited for a friend to join band with a brand new instrument, and she's a natural even! \r\nThen, I posted this project with this young man in mind, and I told him, yours is next, so we will see! The pictures you'll see of him opening his new instrument don't really do the moment justice, because the joy on his face is indescribable. You've made a kids day today, and he now has a fully functional, brand new flute that he can play with pride. Thank you so much for making such an impact on our students.","fullyFundedDate":1774144441733,"projectUrl":"project/finicky-flute-2/10148227/","projectTitle":"Finicky Flute 2","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Robison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1050024_orig.jpg?crop=400,400,x0,y32&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1765737523719","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hrobison"},{"teacherId":9336782,"projectId":10162389,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your amazing donation of calm lights in the classroom. I was fortunate enough to get to play steel pans when I was in high school and it really brought out the fact that I loved music and it's something that I wanted to pursue in my career and life.\r\nFast forward a couple decades and now I am introducing this same instrument to younger students and they are thriving. So many questions around what songs can we play, how can we play them, and is this really an unusual instrument to have in schools?\r\nWe learned how young this instrument is compared to others, as well as that if you have all the voices, they create a full ensemble all on their own!\r\nMy students were really interested to learn it originated around a biscuit container.\r\n\r\nIt is because of donors like you, we are able to expose students to new and diverse music to it's fullest. It's one thing to watch these instruments on a video, and an entirely different experience when you actually get to play them.
