With this new role as a special education case manager, my students really needed these specific materials. They really loved the behavior activities and what is or isn't school appropriate or safe. I have many students who are developmentally delayed and need assistance with understanding how to function safely at school. Many of these activities were wonderful resources for them.\r\n\r\nMy students also loved using the kinetic sands, fidgits and playdough. Not only did they use these materials as a sensory experience for regulation, they also used the playdough to count, practice numbers and letters. You have helped my students access tools and materials that will support their developing communication skills. \r\n\r\nOne of the first students who saw the new material instantly became more engaged and willing to converse not only with myself, but developed a spontaneous narrative using Pete the Cat in his play plan; he independently demonstrated the skills taught through his IEP goal. The language expansion he produced was more than had been documented throughout this whole school year and it was fabulous to see my student's growth in real time. \r\n\r\nThe next steps are to build upon the speech and/or language skills that they have been previously taught by using new tools and materials to probe their communication skills and support further communication development. Play is one of the most underrated ways to elicit speech sounds and language comprehension and production. Communication is a fundamental right and my students deserve to have access to materials that will help them soar.
