It is exactly what my students needed to sit comfortably on the floor during whole group lessons! The rug has proven to be a perfect fit. It is also very useful to have numbered spots, so if and when the time comes that I have to assign a seat to a student who is having a hard time making safe or responsible choices, I can use the visual boundaries already provided on the rug to have the child sit in their numbered hexagon. These boards are being used daily in our resource room alongside the UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) reading program, which is the foundation of our structured literacy instruction. Having the phonics boards available has given my students a hands-on, interactive way to connect with the lessons we are learning, and the results have been inspiring.\r\n\r\nWhen the phonics boards first arrived, the students' excitement was immediate. Their eyes lit up as they explored the boards, moving the pieces around, experimenting with letters, and forming words on their own. What struck me most was how quickly they gravitated toward them, almost instinctively knowing these were tools that would help them learn in a way that felt fun and engaging. The students loved the tactile experience, and many commented on how \"cool\" it was to have something that looked and felt like a game but was actually helping them become stronger readers.\r\n\r\nIn the resource room, we often work with students who need extra support and practice to develop their literacy skills. The UFLI program is highly effective, but what makes it come alive for students are tools like these phonics boards. The students have used the spinners already many times, both in their independent work times and in their small group Math centers. The spinners are very versatile and adaptable for many activities, since they come numbers and blank! They are clear, as well, so I can have the children lay them over many options to use different ways. \r\nI have been able to find many valuable resources on Teachers Pay Teachers, as well, that I have printed to use with the spinners for small group Math times, as those activities do not come with our Math curriculum and I have to supplement them myself. I was able to find things on comparing numbers, shapes, and counting to 100, which were all the areas we have currently been working on! I was very excited to not have to be limited to the free resources available on the website, since those resources I needed are not always available for free. I have also utilized the 3D shapes for several whole group lessons, and plan to have the children sort and build with them in our next unit! Students in grade 4 are learning the following chords: C, F, A-minor, and G on ukulele. During the month of March, students will learn how to play these chords on the piano keyboard using the donated keyboards and the Music Will Introduction to Piano Keyboard- video lessons. The first lesson will help students to locate notes on the keyboard with Mnemonic memory methods, starting with where to find notes F and C. \r\nThe students have been very excited to access classroom music beyond using accessory percussion instruments. They immediately began to play with the demo instrument buttons on the keyboards, and recognized some of the sample music that was offered on the instrument. My students now have more of the resources needed to create music on traditional instruments that can be taught in the classroom. Additionally, students now have a physical keyboard to touch while learning note names. \r\nMy goal for this project is for students to be able to access both the ukulele and piano keyboard to play simple melodies and popular songs from the Music Will program. Students are currently able to play two songs on ukulele, and will learn chord fundamentals (C, D-minor, E-minor, F, G, and A-minor chords) and one song in the key of G major in the first two weeks of their studies. The Music Will beginning keyboard unit consists of 16 songs incorporating beginning chords for students to work on for the duration of the school year. I am thrilled and so are my students!
