It was a nice bridge between the experiences that I wanted to extend to my students and the actual availability of the necessary materials.\r\n The impact has been as diverse as the materials I was able to choose for the classroom. I will try to paint a picture of how the chosen items have impacted the educational experience in my classroom.\r\n Many of my lesson presentations involve PowerPoint slideshows. The smart board used in my classroom, called a Promethean, allows me to advance the slideshow by touching the screen. But it does not allow me to step backwards through the slideshow. To do this, I must stay tethered to my laptop. My project included a wireless \"clicker\" that allows me to operate the slideshow remotely. This allows me to be moving about the room, which has a benefit in promoting a level of engagement in the students who choose to sit towards the back of the room.\r\n I have found that my ability to give an instant reward for positive class participation is a perk that is well received with the students. I'm known for keeping treats in my shirt pocket and doling them out for students who have done something commendable. My project included two big bags of Lifesaver mints. I found that this treat is welcomed by the students and I've never heard of any allergic threats that they pose.\r\n My project included a small, metal metallic bowl, which I use as a gong to signal the class. Being that such a gong is often used in yoga or meditation classes, I wanted the students to associate the sound as an effective \"call to order\" when the classes beginning or when the noise level has risen to a degree that it is disruptive to the instruction. It has also been useful in this discussion of wave energy.\r\n By far, the prevalent component of my project has been the sets of juggle balls. In teaching science, there is often talk of particles, cells, planets, etc., that is conducive to tactile explanation using the balls in physical demonstrations. Aside from drawing these analogies, it has been a treat for many of my students to receive juggling lessons in our academic downtime. This has proven to be an endearing bonus with many of the kids, as well as a stimulation of their coordination and, more importantly, the boost in self-esteem when they realize that they can learn something that at first seem difficult.\r\n In closing, I would like to thank our donors who have supplied me with these materials and enhanced the learning experiences taking place in my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1768672780209,"projectUrl":"project/earth-bending-science/10018194/","projectTitle":"Earth Bending Science","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Myers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10403789"},{"teacherId":10411833,"projectId":10039244,"letterContent":"The resources I purchased with my request was for my resource class or students who are 4 grade levels or more below grade level in math. I received a kit with enough materials for every student to have their own kit. When I brought out the kit, I explained that each kit included number tiles that corresponded to its proportion of 1. So, the 1/1 tile was the same length as two 1/2 tiles all the way up to 1/12 tiles. \r\nFirst I let the students play and experiment with their kits. They were so engrossed, the classroom was silent as they were so focused on making equivalent fractions! I then showed them how to add and subtract fractions using the tiles. At the end of the week, we did a quiz. While the students still needed to use the tiles to complete the quiz, it was a huge step in their understanding in a difficult subject!","fullyFundedDate":1768767983112,"projectUrl":"project/resources-for-resource-math/10039244/","projectTitle":"Resources for Resource Math","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cobb","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10411833"},{"teacherId":10312637,"projectId":10017065,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding my project to help bring mental health awareness to middle school students! Thanks to your kindness, my students now have access to essential materials—snacks, stress balls, and a wonderful collection of social‑emotional board games—that will make a meaningful difference in their daily school experience.\r\nIn my small group counseling sessions, creating a space where students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn is at the heart of everything we do. The snacks you provided help students stay focused and comfortable during our time together, especially when they're working through challenging emotions or situations. Something as simple as a snack can make a world of difference for a child who needs a moment of grounding.\r\nThe stress balls and sensory items have already begun helping students regulate their emotions in healthy, productive ways. These tools give them something tangible to turn to when they feel overwhelmed, allowing them to practice coping skills we discuss during our Second Step lessons.\r\nThe social‑emotional board games have been an absolute joy to incorporate. They allow students to learn skills such as empathy, communication, problem‑solving, and emotional regulation in an engaging, hands‑on format. For many of my students, learning feels more meaningful when it's interactive, and these games help them connect deeply with the lessons while also strengthening their peer relationships.\r\nYour generosity has provided more than just supplies—you've provided opportunities. You've helped create an environment where students can grow socially and emotionally, build confidence, and develop lifelong skills.
