Pahrump Valley High School is a TItle 1 school with all students receiving free lunch and breakfast. I am watching my students work on their new tables and for the first time all year, they seem comfortable. They are working on an online lab right now and they are at ease with their laptops on the table. Prior to this, they would struggle to even keep the laptops on their very small and slanted desks. Every class period would see at least 1 or 2 laptops plummeting to the ground because the student would let go for a minute and it would just slide off. They are all comfortable in the new chairs and working at ease. \r\n\r\nI teach science and try to have hands-on labs as often as possible. My room has 5 built in lab pods that seat 4 students each. The pods originally had sinks with 2 faucets, but those were dismantled years ago, leaving a useless hole. I have a combination lab/classroom, and have had to put students at the lap pods during regular class time due to not having enough regular seats. The classroom portion of my setup had 20 old, small desks with slanted tops. Having to use the lab pods as normal seating meant that I was never able to prepare for a lab and have it set up prior to the students arriving. I will now be able to prepare for labs prior to class. \r\n\r\nAs this day moves on and I see my students being comfortable at the new tables and in their new seats, I wish I would have done this last year. I did ask the school, multiple times, if I could have lab tables and kept being told that there were no funds for new furniture. When I submitted my DonorsChoose project, I honestly did not think that I would be funded. I was so excited when somebody told me that they were going to donate, but that it was already fully funded. My heart jumped with joy for my students. Everything happened so fast and within a week I was getting my order. Some friends came and helped me assemble the tables and I could not be happier with the results. My students actually have a good set up now, thanks to you. From the bottom of my heart, I say thank you. \r\n\r\nSincerely, \r\nNora Bond","fullyFundedDate":1742960240064,"projectUrl":"project/refit-science-lab-room-with-work-benches/9204068/","projectTitle":"Refit Science Lab Room With Work Benches and Chairs","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bond","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7162922_orig.jpg?crop=848,848,x0,y36&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742780649082","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7162922"},{"teacherId":5427429,"projectId":9075633,"letterContent":"Thank you once again for supporting my students. We were excited when the boxes came before Spring Break. The tables did have to be assembled though, and that was going to occur while we were gone. So imagine coming back from Spring Break to 5 brand new, school colored tables from our generous donors! The students were very excited to try the new desks.\r\n\r\nWe have started to move out 5 of the old desks to replace with these new 5. I still have to figure out configuration for the classroom, however the students are already sitting at them. When they first saw them in the classroom they were excited to try them out. They liked that they were as close to the school colors as could be, which fosters an even greater sense of school pride. They wanted to match the maroon chairs with them instead of the blue chairs.\r\n\r\nAs for the next steps, I have a Part II project that is live and currently accepting donations to hopefully receive 5 more desks which will provide a total of 10 in addition to the standing desks I already have in my class. At that point, my vision of flexible seating will be almost complete. I know the students are much more comfortable having room to move around with these desks versus the desks that are provided from the school. The desks provided were either too old and squeaky for them to concentrate or they just didn't provide the room that these growing students need to be comfortable. Again, we thank you so much for your support and hope you can continue to support us towards our next goal.","fullyFundedDate":1741918768462,"projectUrl":"project/comfortable-and-flexible-learning-enviro/9075633/","projectTitle":"Comfortable and Flexible Learning Environment For All","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. LeBowsky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5427429_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692237491080","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/laura-lebowsky"},{"teacherId":7162922,"projectId":6001245,"letterContent":"My students are still benefitting from the rock lab equipment that I bought using the funds donated. I bought 3 rock tumbles and 50 pounds of broken rock. The bags of rock have several different types of rocks, including different sizes and colors. I put the rocks in water and then have the students pick a rock they like. Then they take the rock, sketch it, find its mass and volume and then calculate the density. The students identify the rock type and name of the rock. We then put the rocks in the tumbler. \r\n I have different students set the tumblers up and add the correct ingredients. Each time that the tumbler ingredients need to be changed, a new group works with the tumblers so they all get the experience of measuring out the grit. There are 4 steps and each step runs 3-4 days, so it takes 2 weeks in total. \r\n Once the tumbling is done, the students find their rock. They take the mass and volume again and recalculate the density. They explain why the mass and volume changed, but not the density. Most students are genuinely very happy with the outcome of their rocks. It is a fun lab that teaches them about rocks and gets them interested in looking at rocks and trying to understand how water can make huge changes to even something like a hard rock. Thank you for making this possible for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1640291383778,"projectUrl":"project/rock-labs/6001245/","projectTitle":"Rock Labs","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bond","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7162922_orig.jpg?crop=848,848,x0,y36&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742780649082","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7162922"},{"teacherId":5956835,"projectId":8979050,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous contribution.
