They were full of questions and ready to use them the moment I showed Indi's to my students. Coding is part of the technology portion of STEM. In our school coding use to be only done on their Chromebooks. All students did was sit on a Chromebook with headphones on and stare at a screen. Just staring at a screen is not conducive to learning and it is not good for students brains. Student are no longer connected to a device, instead they get to code hands-on and see how their coding works in real-time. Students work in teams of three or four to create unique codes for the Sphero Indi's to run.\r\n\r\nAnother wonderful aspect of our Sphero Indi's is that all students can participate and all students can code. Students with special needs are included in our teams and they are as engaged as our general ed students. All students feel a part of our coding fun in our STEM classroom. My K-1 students and my students with special needs truly appreciate your help in STEM journey. Specifically, the journey in learning about engineering in our classroom. \r\n\r\nIn our school I see all 500 + students for STEM. My students in K-1 and students with special needs in many cases do not have the dexterity or the fine motor skills for the smaller materials that my 2-5 students use. The Duplo's have become a game changer. All of my k-1 students along with my students with special needs no longer get frustrated give up when they are building engineering projects. The Duplo's are so much easier for these students to create and build their designs. \r\n\r\nAs student move up higher grades they will of course graduate to smaller building materials. Even though they will move on new kindergarteners and the next group of first graders will get to use Duplos as well. The Duplo's have given many of my students the ability to be successful at the task they are assigned. Hands-on work is the best way to get all students involved regardless of their age and classroom they come from. Let me give you a few examples of how your sharing spirit has made a positive impact in the lives of our students.\r\n The posters that I chose have considerably brightened the walls of our classroom, while at the same time displaying basic concepts, such as the alphabet, colors, shapes, numbers, sight words, and emotions. The students loved the bright colors and pictures, and consult them during work time (shapes and colors especially!). We received two sets of books relating to our quiet corner and behavioral expectations. The \"SPOTS\" books (along with the SPOTS themselves) explore emotions and the best way to maneuver through rough times. The students really enjoy grabbing a stuffed SPOT that represents how they are feeling in any given situation. The second set of books deals with social situations and best practices. We have read and discussed several. We also received two sets of blocks that are big fan favorites. Students who earn free time or need to be redirected are enjoying them immensely. I also ordered a neat cart that contains the blocks.
