These texts are not just stories—they are tools that help students develop essential language skills such as vocabulary acquisition, comprehension, pronunciation, and confidence in a second language. Through these books, students are learning how to make connections, ask questions, identify key details, and retell stories—all while strengthening their ability to communicate in Spanish. For many of my students, this is their first time having consistent access to engaging, high-quality Spanish texts at their level, and it has made a noticeable difference in both their enthusiasm and progress.\r\nReading in our classroom is now an interactive and student-centered experience. During our literacy centers, students rotate through activities where they read independently, practice with partners, and engage in guided reading with me. You can hear students sounding out words together, discussing illustrations, and even acting out parts of the stories to deepen their understanding. The classroom feels alive with language—students are not just reading, they are speaking, listening, and thinking in Spanish. These moments are helping them build confidence and take risks in their learning, which is especially important in a bilingual setting.\r\nSeveral students who were previously hesitant to participate are now among the most engaged during reading time. I have students who eagerly rush to the book center, excited to choose a story that reflects their culture or introduces them to something new. One of my quieter students now volunteers to read aloud, while another proudly shares new vocabulary words with their classmates. These books have created opportunities for all learners to see themselves as readers and language learners, and that shift has been incredibly meaningful to witness.\r\nI would also like to share with the Nevada Legislature, Governor Joe Lombardo, and State Superintendent Victor Wakefield that programs like this have a direct and lasting impact on students. Access to culturally relevant, bilingual resources supports not only language development but also student identity, confidence, and academic success. Investments in classroom resources like these help create equitable learning environments where all students can thrive. Thank you for supporting educators and students across Nevada—your commitment is making a real difference in our classrooms every day.","fullyFundedDate":1768149813799,"projectUrl":"project/building-bilingual-learners-one-center-a/9997238/","projectTitle":"Building Bilingual Learners One Center at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ramirez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10314826"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_133645","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":37,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":40,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 3","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":33.3,"schoolId":133645,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Vegas Vista Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Vegas Vista Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/nevada-department-of-education/vegas-vista-academy/133645"}
