As the Exceptional Education Director, I have the privilege of supporting our K–5 students with diverse sensory, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. Because of your thoughtful donations, we were able to equip classrooms and calming spaces across our elementary grades with meaningful tools that help students regulate emotions, stay engaged, and access learning successfully.\r\n\r\nYour contributions provided a wide range of social-emotional and sensory supports, including fidget tools, Calm Strips, stress balls, sensory tubes, emotion-focused manipulatives, Play-Doh, and social-emotional learning books such as I'm in Control of Myself and other feelings-based read-alouds. These materials were shared with classrooms and placed in our calming corner space within the Exceptional Education Center so that students could access supports throughout the school day, not just in moments of distress, but proactively to maintain focus and readiness to learn.\r\n\r\nOne powerful shift we observed was how quickly students began independently choosing tools that matched their needs. A kindergarten student who previously became overwhelmed during transitions now walks to the calming area, selects a sensory tube, and returns ready to participate. In upper elementary classrooms, students use fidgets or Calm Strips during instruction, allowing them to remain seated, attentive, and regulated. Teachers consistently share that students who once struggled to sustain attention are now able to engage for longer periods with fewer disruptions.\r\n\r\nThe social-emotional books and conversation tools have also strengthened our instruction. During small-group lessons, students used emotion manipulatives and discussion cubes to identify feelings, practice coping strategies, and talk about real experiences. These conversations have helped normalize emotional expression and build self-regulation skills across grade levels. We are seeing students develop language for their feelings and confidence in managing them.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has allowed us to create supportive learning environments where students with different needs can thrive alongside their peers. What might appear to be simple sensory and SEL materials have had a profound impact on engagement, independence, and emotional growth across our K–5 community. You have helped us build classrooms where regulation and learning go hand in hand.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and investing in their well-being and success. Your support is felt every day in our classrooms and calming spaces.","fullyFundedDate":1768154579056,"projectUrl":"project/support-students-with-disabilities/9997871/","projectTitle":"Support Students With Disabilities","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cramer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10399862"},{"teacherId":8015274,"projectId":5770046,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding our digital library! Your generosity has had a direct and lasting impact on my students, who now have greater access to engaging, age-appropriate texts that support both their academic growth and love of reading.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is a daily experience of exploration, curiosity, and discussion. Thanks to the digital library, students are not limited by access to physical books or the school library's hours. They can browse, select, and dive into texts that match their reading level and interests—right from their Chromebooks or tablets. We use these texts to build critical reading skills such as making inferences, identifying text structures, building vocabulary, and understanding character development and theme.\r\n\r\nThese books have also made it easier to differentiate instruction. Whether students are reading independently, working in small groups, or participating in guided reading sessions with me, I can assign texts that align with their personal goals while encouraging them to explore genres they might not usually pick up.\r\n\r\nOne student, in particular, who had shown little interest in reading earlier this year is now hooked on historical fiction—she's been flying through books and is now asking deeper questions and leading discussions in her group. Another student, who struggles with decoding, now uses the text-to-speech feature to help him follow along—giving him the confidence to engage with stories and build comprehension.\r\n\r\nThis digital library isn't just about reading—it's about empowerment, voice, and growth. Thank you for investing in our classroom and helping me put meaningful books in the hands of students who are eager to learn, dream, and lead.","fullyFundedDate":1630086911834,"projectUrl":"project/digital-library/5770046/","projectTitle":"Digital Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Weatherly","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8015274_orig.jpg?crop=4284,4284,x0,y342&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752521248225","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/fuelingfutureleaders"},{"teacherId":9578219,"projectId":8477202,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your generosity in providing my classroom with treasure chest toys and rewards. These materials have made an incredible impact on my student's learning and engagement. By incorporating a reward system where students earn prizes for their hard work, participation, and positive behavior, I have seen a noticeable increase in motivation and classroom enthusiasm. The excitement of choosing from the treasure chest has encouraged students to stay focused, complete their assignments, and support their peers. Additionally, our scavenger hunt activities have turned learning into an adventure, making lessons more interactive and fostering a sense of teamwork.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, I have been able to reinforce positive classroom behavior in a fun and meaningful way. The treasure chest system has not only served as a motivational tool but has also taught students responsibility through our student job program, where those who excel in class earn the privilege of selecting a reward. When my students first saw the materials, their eyes lit up with excitement, and they couldn't wait to engage in the new activities. This has created a classroom environment where students are eager to participate, knowing that their hard work is recognized and appreciated. Moving forward, I plan to continue incorporating these rewards into our lessons, ensuring that learning remains engaging and rewarding. \r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible, you have truly made a difference in our classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1727971025684,"projectUrl":"project/scavenger-hunt-treasure-for-students/8477202/","projectTitle":"Scavenger Hunt & Treasure for Students: Physical Education","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Casales","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9578219_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720479671936","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9578219"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_125327","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":369,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":21,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":59,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 1","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":67.0,"schoolId":125327,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Nevada Rise Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Nevada Rise Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/nevada-department-of-education/nevada-rise-academy/125327"}
