They also get quite competitive when battling against one another for their reviews. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, the Roomba has brought a lot more joy and excitement to our daily routine. Because of your generosity, my students now have access to flexible seating, fresh supplies like whiteboard markers, and essential cleaning materials that help us maintain a space where they feel safe, comfortable, and respected. Many of my students come in needing extra support to focus and regulate, and having a classroom that is both organized and welcoming has made a huge difference in their ability to engage in learning.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, they were genuinely excited. The flexible seating has been a game changer, students who once struggled to stay in their seats are now able to choose a spot that helps them focus and feel at ease. Something as simple as having working markers for our whiteboards has increased participation, allowing students to actively engage, practice skills, and build confidence in a low pressure way. The cleaning supplies have also helped us build routines around taking pride in our space, which has created a sense of ownership and responsibility within the classroom.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using these resources to support small group instruction, hands on learning, and social emotional growth. As cliche as it sounds, I firmly believe in the magic of getting lost in the rich fantasy worlds created by reading. A great example of this, that I was blessed to witness firsthand, came in the form of a frequent request I received this year; \"The Wild Robot\" has proven to be a very popular book amongst my 7th graders, likely due to its unique take on science fiction and the deep, albeit subtle, world-building. It has been incredibly satisfying to see my kiddos flock to my bookshelf, and become genuinely excited to pick up this book and read it- at one point, I had to start a waitlist for it- the first time I ever had to do! \r\nThis year, courtesy of your donation, I was able to improve access to that modern classic, by providing a Spanish Language translation of it. One of my students came to us from South America, and when she arrived, she did not speak, write, or read English at all. Needless to say, her ability to enjoy the \"magic of reading\" was particularly limited; I searched high and low for Spanish language translations of student favorites, but finding anything proved far more challenging (and expensive) than I would have hoped. \r\nThankfully, with your grant, I was able to acquire enough translated reading material to sate even the most ravenous readers; needless to say, the first thing I requested was \"Robot Salve,\" the official translation of \"The Wild Robot.\" However, I quickly observed the young lady gravitating towards a different translated series I had acquired, the \"Harry Potter\" books. These are a personal favorite of mine, and it felt especially heartwarming to see her exploring the \"Wizarding World.\" We have observed substantial increases in her English-language proficiency, and while her newfound love of \"Harry Potter\" is not the only factor, it has clearly demonstrated just how exciting reading can be.\r\nI cannot begin to express how satisfying it has been to see a student, with such a unique educational challenge, overcome it, thanks to the \"magic\" of reading!","fullyFundedDate":1768672364270,"projectUrl":"project/reading-is-magic/10025028/","projectTitle":"Reading is Magic!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jaszewski","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9350791"},{"teacherId":8384284,"projectId":9988109,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for choosing to support my classroom. The students and myself truly appreciate it. They were beyond ecstatic to see board games and new playground balls come in.\r\n\r\nMy students use those kickballs everyday. And they feel a sense of responsibility towards them, let me tell you. They make sure to grab every single one after recess, if one goes missing? They scour the playground until it's located. They love to play soccer with them, basketball, 4-square, you name it? They've played it. They have learned how important it is to share with the other classes and it's great to see students playing together, who normally don't.\r\n\r\nThe board games have been amazing. It's so fun for the kids to play games, but also use the skills they've learned in class. For instance, battleship was great when we were learning how to plot points on the coordinate plane and we could make that connection. Or playing guess who, and using context clues and details to eliminate the wrong choices to find the correct one. (A test taking strategy!) Or creating words from letters in Scrabble. \r\n\r\nWe truly cannot express how much this donation means to us.
