During our cardboard projects, small pieces of cardboard, paper, and other materials can end up on the floor. Now, students are responsible for sweeping and cleaning their own areas before leaving the classroom. Our classroom floor is much cleaner, and students are learning that being a good designer also means taking care of their workspace.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new brooms and dustpans, they were excited to have something they could use to help clean the classroom. Some students even told me they were learning how to sweep because they don't usually sweep at home! It was a simple moment, but it showed me that they were learning an important life skill along with their engineering skills.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building and testing our engineering projects. Students will use the same teamwork and responsibility they have practiced during our building activities as they work on new designs. Watching them figure out the mechanics on their own and celebrate when the meter went up was a great moment.
