We made gesture and contour drawings, pastels, and even constructed our own rock sculptures outside in small groups in the wash area between our middle school, Sunrise Mountain High School, and Hickey Elementary School. \r\n\r\n Forty-two of my students participated in a field trip to Valley of Fire State Park on April 23rd to experience the petroglyphs first-hand. Many of my students need a space where they feel comfortable, calm, and encouraged to explore books without pressure. With the books and cozy materials provided through this project, students now have a special area in the classroom where reading feels safe, relaxing, and enjoyable rather than stressful or intimidating.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been especially noticeable with reluctant readers. Students who once avoided independent reading are now choosing to spend time in the Cozy Corner, flipping through books, sharing stories with classmates, and building confidence in their reading abilities. Having access to inviting seating, comforting materials, and engaging books has helped transform reading into a positive experience that students actually look forward to during the school day.\r\n\r\nThis project has done more than provide classroom materials—it has helped create a sense of belonging and excitement around literacy. Students are no longer just users of technology—they are creators. They are building robots, writing code, and seeing immediate results from their ideas. This hands-on approach helps them understand important concepts like sequencing, problem-solving, and cause-and-effect in a meaningful way. For many students, especially those who benefit from visual and hands-on learning, robotics has made computer science finally make sense.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students is watching their ideas come to life. A robot moving exactly how it was programmed brings a level of excitement that is hard to replicate. Even when things don't work the first time, students stay engaged as they troubleshoot, revise, and try again. Confidence grows as they realize they can fix problems and improve their designs. The classroom has become a space filled with energy, collaboration, and a willingness to take risks in learning.\r\n\r\nThere has been noticeable growth across all learners, especially among special education students and those who previously struggled with traditional instruction. One student who rarely participated is now actively explaining their code to peers. Another who lacked confidence now takes the lead in helping others troubleshoot. These experiences are building not only academic skills, but also independence, communication, and belief in their own abilities. Your support is helping students see themselves as future engineers, problem-solvers, and creators.","fullyFundedDate":1768157715120,"projectUrl":"project/robots-today-stem-leaders-tomorrow/9999011/","projectTitle":"Robots Today, STEM Leaders Tomorrow","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Harris","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10242081"},{"teacherId":9372901,"projectId":10016871,"letterContent":"Your support made a meaningful difference in our classroom by helping us celebrate student growth in a fun and motivating way. What may seem like a small addition brought a lot of joy and motivation into our classroom.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students felt recognized, celebrated, and encouraged to keep working hard. They've been especially helpful during small group sessions, where students can build social-emotional skills in a more focused and supportive setting. Whether we're practicing communication, coping strategies, or problem-solving, the resources have allowed students to engage more openly and confidently while utilizing the craft materials for coping.\r\n\r\nThe office materials have also contributed in creating a warm, calming environment where students feel safe and comfortable. The basketball hoop has been a hit! This is so important for the work we do—students are more willing to share, reflect, and participate when they feel at ease. I've noticed that even students who are usually reserved have begun to open up more during our time together.\r\n\r\nThank you for the hygiene items. Having access to basic hygiene products has helped remove barriers that can impact students' confidence, comfort, and ability to focus throughout the school day. Students have been able to discreetly access items they need, which has supported their sense of dignity and well-being. In small group settings and individual check-ins, I've also been able to incorporate conversations about self-care and healthy routines, helping students build important life skills in a supportive environment.\r\n\r\nYour support is helping create a space where students feel seen, supported, and empowered—thank you for making that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1769104384788,"projectUrl":"project/clean-calm-and-cozy-tools-for-student/9990473/","projectTitle":"Clean, Calm, and Cozy: Tools for Student Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Perez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8232539"},{"teacherId":10413566,"projectId":10044625,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your contribution to \"Support Smooth Online Testing and Computer Lab Work.\" Your generosity has made a real, visible difference in our middle school classrooms, and I want you to know just how much it means to our students and to me.\r\n\r\nBefore this project was funded, our computer lab was a source of daily frustration. Outdated equipment meant slow load times, unexpected crashes, and students losing work mid-assignment — especially stressful during online testing. Now, with the updated equipment your donation helped provide, our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders can focus on what actually matters: learning. Tests run smoothly, research projects move at a real pace, and students leave the lab feeling accomplished rather than defeated.\r\n\r\nWhat's been most rewarding to watch is the confidence this has sparked. One of my quieter students — someone who used to shut down the moment a computer froze on her — has become one of the most engaged kids in the room. She told me the other day that she actually likes coming to the computer lab now. That kind of shift is hard to put a price on, but your donation made it possible.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students. Students were genuinely excited and curious about how they could earn rewards through positive behavior and academic effort. For many of them, this created a clear and motivating goal. I remember one specific moment during our math lesson on Pythagorean Theorem—students who typically struggled to stay engaged were actively participating, asking questions, and even encouraging their peers because they wanted to earn incentives. It transformed the atmosphere into one of teamwork and accountability.\r\n\r\nWe are using the resources daily (until we ran out) as part of our classroom management and academic reinforcement system. Students earn incentives for completing assignments, staying focused, collaborating respectfully, and demonstrating perseverance. These rewards have helped build consistency and have made expectations more concrete and attainable.\r\n\r\nSince implementing the system, I've seen noticeable improvements in student engagement, behavior, and confidence. Students are taking more ownership of their learning and are proud of their progress, both academically and personally.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are continuing to build on this momentum. As we move into more complex math concepts and collaborative projects, students will use the same incentive system to stay motivated and focused. I also plan to incorporate more student-led activities, where they can set goals and track their own progress toward earning rewards, further developing independence and responsibility.\r\n\r\nYour support has done more than provide goodies/materials—it has helped create a positive, encouraging environment where students feel motivated and capable of success. I have been able to enhance the environment in my classroom with the welcome mat. It has been much easier to keep the room clean using the sweeper and the cleaning wipes daily. The students are even helping since they enjoy using the sweeper.\r\n\r\nI was able to open a student store with the snacks. I reward my students daily with points for reinforcement of positive behaviors that they show throughout the day in my classroom. They get so excited when I open the store and they are able to redeem points for snacks. They are beyond grateful and thank you for allowing the opportunity for this to take place. \r\n\r\nWhen the boxes came in, the kids were so excited and wanted to see what was received. The class that was with me when the boxes were opened must have spread the word quickly, because all of my classes started asking about snacks and the student store. I honestly think that this has had a huge impact on behaviors and having the kids feel rewarded for a job well done. It has definitely had a positive impact on the students. \r\n\r\nThe after-school Art Club has been using materials weekly and creating such fun projects. We made Easter baskets this past week using the construction paper. We have made some origami animals and made some vintage looking bottles using the masking tape and shoe polish.
