The students have been very challenged and engaged with our phonics games used for centers, especially the domino blends and digraphs. The students really need to think about what blend or digraph they can use to add to make a word. I was able to also get some easier games that reinforce blends and digraphs, so I am able to meet the needs of all of my students. They love doing the puzzles. Many of my students have never done a puzzle before. When they finish one, their smiles and excitement are contagious! \r\nIt was really heart warming when they used the \"skin toned\" markers. One of my students said to another student, \"Look, now I can make it look like me!\"\r\nI love seeing their creativity with the stem materials. Having a secure and reliable charging station ensured that tablets were always ready for use, allowing students to consistently access communication tools such as AAC apps, as well as interactive literacy and individualized learning programs. This consistency helped students build language skills, improve attention, and develop greater independence in completing tasks. The organized storage provided by rolling carts also made a significant impact, as students could easily access materials needed for activities, which encouraged them to follow routines and transition smoothly between lessons.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the use of laminating pouches allowed teachers to create durable visual supports like schedules, task cards, and communication boards that students relied on daily. These visual tools provided clear expectations and structure, which is especially important for young learners with diverse developmental and sensory needs. Art materials such as jumbo crayons and markers supported fine motor development and gave students opportunities to express creativity while practicing early writing skills. The inclusion of snack packs as part of a positive reinforcement system further supported self-regulation, motivation, and social interaction. Altogether, these resources helped foster a classroom environment where students felt supported, engaged, and better equipped to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1768173106976,"projectUrl":"project/sped-classroom-support-for-student-succe/9995704/","projectTitle":"SPED Classroom Support for Student Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Pease","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8129850"},{"teacherId":8131389,"projectId":10005316,"letterContent":"My students are absolutely loving showing their work on the dry erase circles. It created a positive and inclusive atmosphere, reducing distractions related to hunger and fostering a stronger sense of community within the classroom.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, the next steps involve continuing to integrate snack access in a structured and equitable way to support learning. We plan to gather informal feedback from students to better understand their preferences and needs, while also monitoring any changes in engagement, behavior, and academic performance. We extended the game by charting some of the traits we discussed. I have started to use the Pete the Cat Groovy Friendship game in a similar manner with a different group of students. Another student and I have been using the Mad Smartz Anger Management game as a tool to discuss the importance of and how to manage emotions. It has been challenging to find activities to engage this particular student, but the Mad Smartz game has piqued his interests. All of these games provide fun, non-threatening situations for students to not only learn about and discuss critical social skills, but they also allow students to apply skills they are learning about (ex: patience, listening, good sportsmanship, managing frustration, etc.) during supervised game play.\r\n\r\nThe exercise dice, fidgets, and especially the kinetic sand have been extremely helpful when working with a few students who are really struggling with emotional regulation. Trying to help students calm down by talking with these particular students isn't often effective. However, when the students make their way to my room, the dice, fidgets, and sand become a healthy distraction that they begin to play with, and oftentimes within five minutes, they have calmed down. Once regulated, we are able to discuss whatever problem is distressing them.\r\n\r\nI am a school counselor, and the students who visit my classroom regularly immediately noticed new items I received as a result of this DonorsChoose project. They were so excited to play the games and SEL toys; there was more than one time when it was compared to seeing gifts on Christmas morning. This excitement carries over from week to week, and kids are always looking forward to returning to my classroom, even when we may be discussing difficult topics. What the kids see as games and toys are the tools we need to create a safe, non-threatening environment for kids to talk about the subjects of grief, divorce, poor decisions they've made, social skills, and self-concept issues.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the items described above, I am very much looking forward to using the Little Spot of Life Skills books for some of my tier 1 SEL instruction. I have used other Little Spot books to teach about emotions and self management. The Life Skills books allow me to continue to use the Little Spots to teach about topics which are critical to students' success in school and life, including but not limited to courage, perseverance, and optimism. I've also recently have been referred students who are struggling with changing home dynamics. I'm grateful to have some new resources to discuss this topic and help kids through a very challenging time in their lives.","fullyFundedDate":1768318798309,"projectUrl":"project/using-play-as-a-tool-for-navigating-to/10010435/","projectTitle":"Using \"Play\" as a Tool for Navigating Tough Times","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Skinner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9118209_orig.png?crop=1120,1120,x0,y7&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699220286504","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9118209"},{"teacherId":311490,"projectId":9998798,"letterContent":"I am so ecstatic for all of the wonderful books and art materials that I was able to obtain through DonorsChoose.
